He's the only reason you people have a respectable football program.

From his autobiography:

quote:

"I still get up at five o' clock. I'd like to sleep later but after thirty-seven years in this business I find I can't. To me it's still time wasted when you sleep past six. At Alabama one morning at seven, I placed a call from my office to Shug Jordan or somebody at Auburn, and the girl said nobody was in yet. I said, 'What's the matter, honey, don't you people take football seriously?'

Everybody thought that was a nice joke, but I meant it. You can get the Auburn people now at seven, or thereabouts, because they've been trying harder. To be honest, they soon copy everything we do. As an example, they were using those big, burly boys and we beat 'em with little quick ones. They switched to the little quick ones and we went to the big ones and beat 'em some more. Now they're back to the big ones. It's flattering, actually."

People on this site wouldn't even recognize a picture of Shug Jordan.

…and ISIS knows who Bear Bryant is!

If I have any criticism about Saban its that he hasn't completely destroyed their hopes and dreams and crushed their spirit the way Bryant did.....

Yeah, as it turns out, things don't work quite the same way as it did when Paul was running things at UA. Even with your best coach in decades we've still managed a MNC and two appearances

And oddly enough, it can and should be argued that Saban's presence in Tuscaloosa is what has motivated the Auburn AD to do everything they can to remain competitive.

If we drop the rivalry posturing, I think everyone can agree that both Bryant and Saban were very good for Auburn football.

I don't think there's much argument about that among Auburn folks

Don't forget to smoke a couple packs of Chesterfields. Unfiltered. Unless you're a bitch.

so by your own logic you should be thanking Tommy Tuberville for Bama's recent dominance since his holding all those fingers up is what motivated them to throw the bank at Saban.

Absolutely. And the beautiful circumstances that led to Bama missing on Rich Rodriguez, and Nick Saban subsequently essentially landing in our lap thanks to the tireless efforts of Mal Moore.
