I watched him at that press conference. He was a class act.

I read on the GA board that even after he was fired he called recruits to try and keep them at the university.

GA may find a better coach, but I doubt they will find a better man.

Hope he does well in whatever he decides to do in the future.

I know it is a risk, but I really think Smart will be a great HC.

I was just struck by what a decent man Richt is in the way he handled this. You have to give him credit.

That's been the problem with Georgia.. If he wasn't such a great guy he would have been canned sooner. I think he is a great coach also.

I'd like to hear a good reason why Smart won't be successful. He's not Muschamp, so you can spare me that.

Richt is a class act and won a lot of games. Sadly, he didn't win the ones that mattered the most. I wish him well in whatever he chooses to do moving forward.

I agree. I think it is a risk worth taking. He played for Georgia and he has to be good or Saban wouldn't still have him around. I think he is the only coach other that the special teams coach Williams and the Strength coach Cochran that has been with him since his first year at Bama. He has had a lot of turnover on the offense but Kirby has been a cornerstone of this team and I think he is ready to be a head coach.

Richt didn't have any HC experience, either.

Richt didn't have HC experience.
Nor did Dabo Swinney
Nor did Jimbo Fisher

Nor did Bear Bryant at Maryland

Nor did every great coach ever at some point

Just off the top of my head

Neither does Kirby. You said give me one reason and I did. Just because the others have been successful doesn't mean he will.

About as classy as someone can be after being fired. I hope he ends up at another big time school and wins a national championship. How you fire a guy who loses 3 games, 2 of which were to teams in the sec championship is beyond me. Classy guy with 3 losses on the year and he gets canned and that bag of hot air at UT keeps his job and continues to talk about bricks. Pretty shitty.

8 different coaches have won the SEC since 2000. Only one of them had no prior experience as a head coach.

Nice stat. Did you drop the mic too?

Coordinators are hit or miss since their job is vastly different than HC. It's like trying hire a plumber based on watching him repair a door frame.

It's definitely rare, especially for a defensive coach.

I don't think Kirby's personality would be an issue with him as a head coach, at least compared to a guy like Muschamp, but he would certainly need a proven OC to help him out.
