Would you prefer NC State? How is that any better? Not a bad choice, but at least West Virginia has a whole state to claim as their own.

You have no idea how this works, do you?

Let's walk through this:
1) Expansion is all about money, which means it's all about increasing the number of states (i.e. households) in the SEC Network's footprint. You add a state to the footprint by selecting a school with enough alumni to drive demand in the state's metro areas. It matters very little whether or not that school is the only school in its state. That's why adding A&M was as good as adding Texas as far as SEC Network money goes (we delivered the state) and why, prima donna issues aside, it would now be a financial mistake and bad for the conference to add Texas (the state is already generating in-footprint $$$, and Texas would affect that number very little, if at all. That is, they'd be another mouth to feed with the roughly the same $$$ total).

2) Mississippi is currently the smallest school in the SEC with a population of 2.9mil. West Virginia has a population of 1.9 mil, about 1/3 less than Mississippi's.

3) West Virginia's largest "city" is Charleston, which has a population of 50k. That's about the same population as New Braunfels, TX. Ever heard of New Braunfels? Of course not. That's because it's a town of fifty fricking thousand so nobody gives a frick about it, and you certainly don't go to conference war over it. I have no idea how many households and potential cable subscriptions are in West Virginia, but with that population, it's debatable whether they'd even generate enough $$ to cover their cost. That is we'd add their money, but we'd have to pay them a full share, so the other 14 members would make less $$ than they currently are). So $$$/15 > ($$$ + WVU$$$)/16

4) North Carolina is a state of 10 million, more than 5x that of West Virginia. Virginia is a state of 8.3 million. North Carolina State and Virginia Tech are big enough names in their states to deliver their metro areas. It is financially retarded to say that West Virginia is a better choice than either VT or NCSU.

I know how it works.

If I had any choice, Texas A&M and Missouri would not be in the SEC. I don't care how much money you add or bring us as a result.

We ADDED YOU...we did not ASK FOR YOU. There is a difference.

There are some people in this conference that still believe that both of your additions were a mistake.

Count me as one of those. Some things are really not about money...they are about Common Sense.

WVU fans are by far the worst fans of any college in the country. West Virginia is also the trashiest state in America. It's terrible, really.

Speak for yourself. Many in the SEC have lobbied for TAMU for years

Yet you suggest adding WVU which means you have no clue how it works.

And common sense says WVU is a terrible SEC prospect.

If this is a serious post, I will say that WVU and the fans have made a big effort to clean up the game day atmosphere in the last few years. Any Big 12 fan base would say they enjoyed their visit to Morgantown, and that they would come back. Its definitely not as bad as many would like to make it seem. The university is also constantly improving/upgrading its facilities.

Anyway, to be honest, it would probably make more since for the SEC to get into NC and VA first.

They are a really great deal. Don't let these idiots who have never been there before try to persuade your opinion.

Maybe the worst post in the history of the rant. Dear god please no, if you have ever been to that state and interacted with the people there you would say the same....

So you would cut away the 30 plus million potential fans/TV sets the SEC got in expansion and replace them with West Virginia?

Texas was in the Confederacy. Mizzou was more than West fricking Virginia. So culturally worse and financially worse?

You are terrible at this. What is your day job, running the Big 12?

WVU would be the worst school in the conference academically, bring no markets to the table, and bring average athletics. Oh, and the absolute shittiest fans and road trip in the country. No thanks. There is no appeal.

pretty sure his rich parents got him out of any serious time. I saw him around the summer after it happened but I didn't ask about it.

I want Clemson or FSU. FSU is their anchor though, so Clemson would be more realistic
