Has there been a better overall player in the past decade than AJ Reed?

So far this year, this is what this fricking guy has done for UK.

Pitching: 90 IP, 9-2, 2.30 ERA, 80 hits, 63 SOs, 25 walks

Hitting: .360 BA, 12 2B, 1 3B, 21 HR, 63 RBI, .491 OBP, .800 slugging

Freshman All SEC in '12, All-SEC in '13, Lock for consensus AA this year, and I have no desire to count his player of the week awards.

I mean... frick. Don't know what else to say.

Love him. He won't pitch in the big leagues but his bat is absurd.

Hate that Hendo doesn't have shite for a pitching rotation behind him. UK would be pretty salty if they did.

ETA: And I'm as surprised as anyone that he's that good this season. He was good before but I thought Cousino would blow up instead.

21 home runs with these bats is insane...although isnt he a Left hand hitter and UK's right field fence super short?

Either way, the guy could play whatever in MLB

He's hit several on the road as well. The home field helps but he's capable on the road too.

I thought this actually was inflating his HRs until I watched the Florida game in early April when he cranked out his 11th IIRC.

Yea... it wouldn't have mattered where the damn fence was. Albeit that was only 1 HR, but dude has legit power.

Oh no doubt he has legit power, 21 HRs is once again insane with these bats.

I just remembered UK's slew of left handed hitters every season and their like 314 foot RF fence

Stephen Head and Danny Hultzen come to mind... AJ is an unbelievable baseball player though.

That's why I thought the same. Last year of the bats ('09) I remember UK had something like 6-7 players with double digit HRs halfway through the season. Granted they did have some really good hitter but a lot of those homers turned into long flyouts when they traveled to Baum.

Stephen Head and Danny Hultzen

Both great players but neither are on the same level hitting as Reed. Hultzen was a better pitcher but not even same conversation with the bat. I'd argue Reed is a better pitcher (slightly) and hitter (more than slightly) than Head, although its been ~10 years since Head played so my memory can be failing me.

ETA: Wasn't Head's freshman year his dirtiest pitching year?

No ... the kid is unreal. Best all-around baseball player I've seen in this league in a long long time.
