... at two different programs before Ed O? (SoCal & LSU)

Interims are such a rare thing in the first place ... I would imagine that Ed O is about to make history.

He was 6-2 as interim at SoCal. If he goes undefeated as interim at LSU does he get to keep the job?

I hope LSU beats everybody but Bama. We need some Yaw Yaw in this conference.

John Thompson was the interim coach for Arkansas State in their bowl games after both Malzahn and Freeze left.

Barry Alavarez did the same thing after Beilema left and Anderson left Wisconsin

Back in my younger days, I was an interim coach for our softball team on several occasions. It was a nightmare.

ETA some guys didn't want to drink enough. Some guys wanted to drink more than they should. I made a rule..........whoever brings the weed makes up the drinking rule for that game.

I did not remember that. Thank you.

Anyone remember what Kines' record was as interim at both programs?

Ed O will be coach the next 3-5 years so he's not really an interim

Think about where that would put LSU, and then think about if you really need to ask that question.

7-1 with wins over everyone but Auburn?

That likely puts LSU in Atlanta in early December.

Well damn ... I had no idea it was that common.

Alvarez got to keep the job, obviously.

Wonder how often interims manage to keep the job?

Of course there are two completely different scenarios for an interim to inherit. The first when a coach leaves midseason for failure to perform reasons. The second when a coach leaves at the end of a regular season to take a new job.

It's the first reason that really applies here though.

Wut?

By that time Alvarez had long been retired from coaching and was just the AD and filling in as HC for the bowl games.

Helton at SoCal. Didn't Dabo take over for Bowden midseason?

Bill Stewart at WVU, I think he coached the Fiesta Bowl win over OU when Rich Rod left for Michigan and they let him keep the job.

no, he came out of retirement twice to coach their bowls games. it was a very unique, and fortunate, situation for Wisconsin

I know we lost the independence bowl against Oklahoma State because we couldn't stop that little inside trap

Andre Smith caught a touchdown pass in that game

I doubt we ever see the AD step up to coach the bowl game again, much less do it twice. Barry did go 1-1 in those games, and the loss was unranked Wisconsin losing 20-14 in a very good Rose Bowl against a top 10 Stanford team. It was kind of cool to watch him do it, honestly.

Very underrated DC.

Pretty much the only reason Shula didn't go 0-8 in the SEC every year.
