Bama plays a video with Bear Bryant speaking during their pregame. I have never been able to understand a single word he says during it. Rank the following coaches in terms of incomprehension -

1. Bear Bryant - Alabama
2. Lou Holtz - South Carolina
3. Ed Orgeron - LSU
4. Farmer Fran - Louisiana Mud Dogs

Bonus feature - Orgeron Song

Went to a cookout in South LA. and here a few observations:
1. they cook on a "pit" and not a "grill" as it is called most often.
2. I couldn't understand what was being said most of the time.
3. they do not go "downtown", they go "updabayou or downdaboyou"
4. "cane" field were everywhere
5. the mosquitos sounded like helicopters flying around
6. there was a pause in the gathering to go buy 5 gallons of daiquiris from the local drive through daiquiri shop.
7. nutria (sp?) pelts were hanging on the, very nice I might add, shop
8. I ate a hotdog because there were things floating in the "gumbo" that couldn't be identified and it looked like little birds (bones, eyes, skin, the whole thing)

Very nice people. Had a great time. Left hungry.

The first quote is "The same thing wins that's always won, and we just have a whole buncha different excuses if we lose." And the second quote is the famous "I'd like for the people to remember me as being a winner, 'cause I ain't never been nothin' but a winner." It's a lot easier to understand without the crowd noise, but both clips do come from the later part of Bryant's life when he became increasingly unintelligible. If you watch clips from the early 60s, he's not very difficult to understand. LINK

I do. And I like my chances better with the hot dog.

Grew up listening to Bear Bryant's Sunday show (was his sidekick named Thornton or something like that). Always open up a different kind of Golden Flakes every week. Bear sounded like he had a mouth full of gravel but I learned to understand what he was saying.

Don't get me wrong, I have had the pleasure of eating true cajun food many times in South LA. Good stuff. This particular time, the "gumbo" was full of, what I can only describe as "little critters/bird looking things". I passed this time. They know how to have a good time.

Plus, the mosquitos tried to carry off two small children, a dachshund, and could only be deterred by several 20 gauge shots. 12 gauges only come out when someone/something is actually carried off first.

Yep, and Bear was about drunk most shows. Sometimes all you could understand was "Bingo, that's a goody".
