I don't like the way Kirby coaches on the sidelines and communicates with the media. He is remarkably uncharasmatic. The real Kirby Smart is an emotional guy. He's holding back to appear less emotional. That's not who he is and it sends the wrong signals to everybody - especially the players.

Last weeks blow out to Ole Miss is uncharacteristic of anything Kirby has ever experienced at Alabama. His reaction to it was muted and unemotional. But - Georgia came back and played inspired football and should have beat Tennessee. In fact I don't consider the Tennessee game a loss - it was more luck that anything else and if they played the last 2 minutes of that game 100 times Georgia would win 99 of them.

The point is I don't like the beginning of Kirby's head coaching career. He's not the firey emotional guy running up and down the sidelines coaching and inspiring his players like he did at Alabama. He looks miserable on the sidelines and starting out 3 - 2 is ugly.

FWIW Kirby isn't ready for a top job like Georgia. He's been around Saban but Kirby doesn't have the gravitas or personal management skills to inspire the players, coach the team, and do all the other things it takes to win at the highest level. It's just too much for Kirby and I think Georgia is in for a tough few years of underachieving - less successful than the Richt years.

I think getting his first HC job at his alma mater may hurt him in the long run.

But Eason already has the makings of a huge career, which may overcome Kirby's OJT phase.

Not even Nick Saban was dominant in the beginning of his career. Few coaches are.

Unfortunately many teams are not willing to let a coach mature and learn on the job. It's either succeed or pack your bags by year three.

He's a new head coach. You cannot act the like you did as a coordinator. He's still finding his way. I trust he'll find it.

He's not a UGA fan, at least I don't think he is.

Too bad that isn't reflected in the standings.

While I was watching I was thinking about how emotional and engaged he was throughout the entire game. Did you see him after he ran on the field & called timeout? He went insane. He's a fun Coach to watch. I hope he ends up doing well @ GA.

Just cause you have to check Richt's pulse every game doesn't mean a firey guy can't do well. He's getting at least 3 years so you better find some patience.

I'm agnostic on Georgia. I'm an Alabama fan and a Kirby Smart fan. I want Kirby to do well but I don't like what I see. Kirby looks uncomfortable and the blowout to Ole Miss is completely uncharacteristic of the Alabama team Kirby coached for the last 9 years. Being a Head Coach is very different than a coordinator and Kirby doesn't appear to be making the transition well. Compare what Mark Richt is doing to what Kirby is doing - it's not pretty. He may well adapt and become a great HC - but, so far, I don't like the Kirby Smart I had complete confidence in at Alabama and don't see a flicker of hope he'll improve.
