Unfortunate that WWII interrupted what he was building in the late 30s and early 40s. Still he returned Tennessee to the pinnacle in 51.

Was an Aggie before he was stolen by West Point (during the wars, they could poach 1-2 players from each school)

All great coaches are. It's like a prerequisite to greatness - bring A&M to the brink of championships, then leave and make someone else a legend.

General Neyland ate Bear Bryants and shite Nick Sabans, and wiped his arse with Urban Meyers.

Neyland was lucky that he got Bryant when he was just starting out. Neyland was in his prime while Bryant was just a pup.

Bryant was lucky Neyland decided to retire, or Alabama would have disappeared from football.

Here, here! Currently, the most underrated coach in SEC history, due to the passage of time.

Many in the early 20th Century considered Neyland second only to Jim Thorpe as an athlete.

Neyland was a 20 games in a season winning pitcher for West Point, star lineman on the football team, and the West Point heavyweight boxing champion.
