Year 1 at Auburn: SEC Championship, National Title appearance (loss)
Year 2 at Auburn: 8-5 (worst season as a head coach) and an Outback Bowl loss

Obviously one of the major factors in success in this conference is the current head coach at the respective program. Les Miles is still going strong at LSU, but he's definitely on the back 9 of his career (if you will). Same with Saban and Richt. Jones seems to have UT going in the right direction and Arkansas will be a legitimate force under Bert for years to come. Freezus and Merlins will win some big games in the coming years, as they always do. Sumlin... not even sure what to say about him yet. We'll definitely know more after this season.

What kind of career do you expect Gus Malzahn to have at Auburn? Top tier/mid tier? Will he outlast Richt/Saban/Miles?

He won't be at Auburn too much longer as he will bolt for Texas after Strong is fired or for the NFL.

This year is big for Malzahn. He doesn't have the roster excuse as he hand picked most of it. We'll see.

I know we have a new group of shitty arse noobs, but we should be able to get a decent conversation going. Going to be solid bumping material, one way or another.

Auburn will always be a player in the West...There will be up years and down years depending on how other teams are doing.

It's just that simple

All bullshite aside, he recruits well and has just hired one of the best defensive minds in the game. He should be one of the top coaches in the SEC and the country barring unforeseen circumstances.

He never had a roster excuse. He was only NOT involved in 1 recruiting class at Auburn in the past 6 years.
EDIT: actually he WAS involved with every recruiting class since hire in 2008-09.

Last year just wasn't good, period. No excuses. The defense was piss poor. His side of the ball was stellar, as usual, but he definitely could self scout some in the red zone. We struggled there.

He's too brilliant of an offensive mind to not succeed and compete for SEC titles on a fairly regular basis, given his defense isn't bottom quarter of the SEC-level bad.

fiddin to fire a shot, get ready

most Arkansas fans wouldnt have him...his past has gone from beloved son of the state to too shady and takes to many thug life players. dont want the caliber of people he has chosen and still chooses to represent Auburn in any way shape or form later on down the line representing Arkansas.

additionally while his style of play was new and inventive in 06, its now tired and worn...we like smash mouth American Football here in Arkansas now.

Based on your previous predictions, I now expect a good 15 out of Malzahn.

After the first season, auburn fans declared him the great Saban-killer and predicted multiple national championships.

I will resist the temptation to make a prediction based on his second season.

This year should tell us much.
