Malzahn said his thought process on going conservative at the half: "How many points can they really score versus our defense"

The correct answer was 27

I wonder how long it will take Vegas to come up with a betting line for how many points AU doesn't score in the second half of a game.

Actually, it was only 6.

But the correct answer really was "enough".

Press conference was one of those welcome to the hot seat ones. They are starting to come after him.

Going Conservative to protect a lead has inherent risks just as going aggressive does.

2nd half?
A lot of people (eta: 2) in this thread ride the short bus with Gus.

If you thought the whirly bird was impressive wait for Gus's left tackle jet sweep. It's coming.

You have to be pretty fricking stupid to play conservative with a 9 point lead, especially since LSU put up 14 on your defense in the first half.

Well if not for that punt return, he might have been right. That play blew the game open and altered the momentum and complexion of the final 13 mins tremendously. Going into it the score was 23-14 with both offenses having appeared to stall out. it was looking improbable that LSU would find the offense to overcome a two possession deficit even with their defense playing well and Auburn's offense having trouble. After that td its 23-21, and LSU is just one big play, turnover, defensive stop, etc from being in or near field goal range and taking the lead, which is precisely what happened.

Superb play by Chark on that punt return. Without that play I think Auburn likely holds on and is still a one loss top 10 team.

Should have been a flag for block in the back on that return.

Which explains why our fanbase is so pissed off about this loss.

If it had been a classic back and forth, last team with the ball wins sort of game, it would be different. Or even a field position chess match. We could have said, "we gave it our best shot, y'all just wanted it more" and other meaningless cliches.

Watching the offenses in the second half was like having front-row seats to a pair of one-legged men in an arse-kicking contest. The only time either team got in the red zone was when AU turned it over on downs on the 25.

Gus needs to learn there are three parts of the game, offense, defense, special teams. He shut down the offense and got beat on special teams.

Hope he learns that at his next job... Gus is done... finished...

OF all quotes I've seen from Malzahn, not a single one has credited LSU for sticking in and fighting hard to come back. Sign of a shitty person right there.
