First off, let me say that the score did not reflect the game between State and LSU last night. There were times when State seemed to pass the ball at will against LSU.

That being said, it was also quite obvious that State did not have the overall talent to compete with Bama, aTm or LSU.

What is the current outlook on the immediate future (next three years) with State by their fanbase?

It appears to me that the coaching is there, I just wonder if there is the ability to recruit to Starkville in a way that gets elite talent on the field to the extent that State is a realistic competitor in the SEC?

Also, if State loses to Arky this weekend but beats Ole Miss, will the fanbase consider this to be a successful season?

I believe we have the talent there now. I fully believe that the dc is not the best out there that we can get. I put the loss on him against Lsu, Bama, and AnM.

DEFENSE is what wins championships and we have played poorly by design it seems.

As to next year, we will improve on offense. On defense we return a lot on the Dl of our ones and twos. Watch the game again and look at #54. He was in the game a lot, and is going to be better than cox.. the lbs are young and we should have improvement. We lose 1 there. DBs... I see a slight drop off in some areas, but improvements in others. A wash.

If we hope to compete, we have to get a better dc, or this dc has to be more aggressive. Bend but not break does not work.

I think State needs LSU and Bama (now maybe aTm) to all be down for State to make any run at the SEC. Similar to 1998.

Here's some food for thought...

Last year MSU ranked 94th in passing this year, so far 56. That's currently above S Carolina, Bama, Vandy, LSU, Mizzou, Kentucky, Auburn. That's only going to improve! The whole line will return! They are pass protecting very well. They rank 14th in the nation at protecting from sacks. Only UT is ahead of us in that. We will be one of the best passing attacks in the SEC.

Run Game... Again, we return everybody. We do have to improve in that area.

The only questions we are going to have is defense. Everybody knows we have to improve on defense. We return the whole DL except Boyd. We have what was considered the #1 DL in the country sign and play in rotation this year.. We had another top 15 Dl sign and has been in the rotation. Talent wise, we are going to improve on that line.

Our LBs are young. We have one graduating. Should see improvement there.

We are not going to see much drop off at DBs.

I don't see MSU being anything but better next year. The questions:

1- will CDM replace the defensive Co.

2- will the improvements and experience be enough.

The only thing that will actually answer that is time and playing the games.
