Wichita State is more of a basketball school than Bama...no need to play second fiddle to the football program.

They definitely stepped up. Their athletic department revenues were $23.6 million compared to $143.8 million for Alabama. That $3.3 million is a pretty huge chunk of their revenues. Percentage wise, WSU valued Marshall even more than Bama did.

I'm sure the Koch brothers are giving some money to cover his salary.

Mayhap so...but that's how the game's played...happens in college football all the time...football coaches get raises/extensions based on rumors only and our offer to Marshall was much more than rumor...

I don't think he would have stayed if they hadn't come up that high.

ETA: I think a school like WSU paying that much money is going to go a long way toward increasing college basketball coach salaries across the board. If a little school like Wichita can pay it, why can't anyone else?

I don't think Les Miles originated the idea of negotiating a raise or originated the idea of using a prospector employer as leverage.

Looks like the Wichita St AD fell for this one too.
