His delivery is impeccable, mastery of the English language incredible, knowledge is undeniable, and his hair is immaculate. Easily deserving of his recent extension. He dominates Marcus Spears in every segment they are in together, same goes for Booger. Can't wait to watch him for years to come as he slowly supplants Herbstreit as the most popular on air talent in the country.

He was gracious enough to take a pic with me on his flight through Huntsville a few months ago.

I like him. And if his scathing review of Matt Elam lights a fire under his arse, I may send him a lovely bottle of bourbon for his troubles.

His hair is a little too fluffy, his tie is a little too blue, and his jacket is a little too plaid.

And you look like you should shed a few pounds.

That suit was ridiculous...but I like the guy. Smart, fair, interest perspectives. He does a good job and I think he'll be doing it a long time. Marcus Spears is my favorite though of the ex-players. I like Tebow as a person but he was just weird as an analyst.

He's got plenty of room to improve, he's only been doing it a few years.

He has improved since he started... but has a way to go.

Comes off as pompous and arrogant, but what would you expect from a Bama player.

he was raised in extreme upper class family and played HS ball at one of the premiere programs in Texas where he never lost a game as a starter. He then went to Bama and went something like 24-3 as a starter winning a national championship. His intelligence is unquestioned, as he was also a Rhodes Scholar candidate. After 3 years in the NFL, he walked away from playing (though he could have easily maintained a roster spot for a number of years more) and entered into on-air talent side of the sport, where he has experienced rapid ascension at ESPN

I would say given all his life has been to this point, the confidence he walks in (that you mistake for pompous and arrogant) is understandable. He's a type A driver personality with social tendencies.

That's going to rub some the wrong way.

the type of people who type this kind of statement, for example...

He is good but he is a douche and he works too hard to avoid being seen as biased.

Thank You! He also thinks way too highly of himself. People like that are annoying. It completely overshadows any knowledge he shows.

I thought he was a pompous arse, but I heard him take a call once when he was a guest on the radio from an ugly Bama fan who berated him and the team for losing the auburn game. Their only loss. The caller was a complete arse of a Bama fan and McElroy handled it like a true gentleman. I've respected him ever since. But he retired from the NFL because he wasn't going to make a roster. I think even he would tell you that.
Pretty good analyst and way better than the guys who don't do any homework.

I'll agree with the latter but not the former, unless it's douchey to be as objective and analytical as possible. Maybe it's his voice and cadence.
