The way this guy has come to dominate college basketball is pretty impressive. Regardless of if you like UK basketball or not, Calipari sits alone at the top of college basketball. It is worth arguing if this is a good or bad thing but I personally don't see any problem with it due to Cal's innovative mindset - I think he will only keep the sport progressing.

quote:

Look at his surroundings NOW. He's the king of Kentucky, working on an eight-figure contract, coveted by the NBA, adored by his fans, regularly hugged by Ashley Judd. He can get just about any All-American he wants. College basketball can't keep up with him. The pros might change their rules because of him.

He used to be John, a middling point guard for Division II Clarion State. Now he's Coach Cal, dominating a sport and tromping on the edge of history.

What's left for him to dream of?

Only perfection.

He's a cheating cheater who cheats, I hope Calipari gets the runs during the first round game, shits himself so hard that it leaks onto the floor, and the entire UK slips on his poopy accident, hits their heads, and are rendered incapacitated for the rest of the game, resulting in a forfeit.

I'm not fond of UK basketball, is what I'm trying to say here.

I like him. Dude turns a bunch of primadonna blue chippers who have been playing street ball their whole life and turns them into sound fundamental teammates with great discipline. Those kids buy in.

In a single elimination tournament.

Since he has been at UK he has a better winning percentage then Rupp did, won a championship, was the runner up in another, was in the Final Four in his 2nd season, and went to an Elite Eight in his first season.

And more importantly, he has produced 19 draft picks. In this age of one-and-done recruiting this sells itself to recruits. Its hard to say no to Kentucky when seeing this fact. I don't mind the guy and respect the hell out of his accomplishments. And his teams are really fun to watch.

Call me crazy but he hasn't progressed the sport at all. Not saying it is his problem, but college basketball has been the least watchable it has been in a while.

And what about his loss to Robert freakin' Morris? You failed to mention that one... I'm not saying Cal isn't a great coach. Clearly he knows what he's doing. But dominating? That's a little strong. If UK wins it all this year, then yea, that statement is accurate.

Cal is clearly the only coach who has had to play in this format. Everyone else played in a double elimination tournament.

I would be willing to bet a massive amount of money that Tommy was compensated in excess of 5 figures for penning that article.

Since he has been a UK he has been better than anyone else.

My point is it is extremely difficult to win title after title with a single elimination tournament. It is basketball, shite can happen some times.

Take their elite eight loss to WVU for example. That UK team beats them 9 times out of 10, but they went something crazy like 0-20 from 3 and lost.

We've watched guys like coach K in recent season go out to teams like Mercer and Lehigh.

Disagree on the point about one and done guys. Schools like Kansas and Duke didn't really recruit these kind of guys like they do now until Cal started to do it at Kentucky.

Seriously harping on this is one of the dumbest things you can do.

Their season went completely down the toilet when they lost Nerlens Noel.

The season before that they won a title and the season after that they were runner ups.
