Nah, they were not in dress uniforms. I've also been with marines that fell out at airborne school. Don't start this Marines are better crap. "Marines wins battles, the Army wins wars."
With that said, the marines didn't do shite at Normandy, Americas famous amphibious victory.

Oh no! Marines getting drunk during the annual celebration of our creation? The horror! If only the Marine Corps wasn't established in a tavern or something.

When I was at Sea School in Norfolk, the E-Club was this prefab building called the "Tin tavern." Wow, I was an E-1.

Lord, we would stack up the 16 oz. Bud cans into giant pyramids seems like every night.

I never ever ever get tired of the Army dogs having no idea of their own history.

At OMAHA the frontage was two RCT's abreast and at UTAH it was was one RCT.

At Iwo Jima the Marines landed two DIVISIONS abreast with another in floating reserve.

At Okinawa, ignorant Army putz, two Army divisions landed abreast, making it larger than Normandy -- but like I say -- Army guys have no idea of their own history.

What I will say to you is that there is NO comparison between the US Army and the Marine Corps.

None.

Its OK.

They were both great military landings in the face of hostile forces.

One gets a lot of publicity but they both involved men stepping into hell.

Go Army. Beat Navy. Go Navy. Beat Army.

In the Marines it is:

"My Corps, your Corps, our Corps, Marine Corps!"

The Army has nothing like that. Army guys denigrate that. yuk! Big Army! Yuk!

A few years ago I asked a retired Army Guy I worked with -- retired Major -- Green Beret.

"What is today?"

No idea.

It was the Army Birthday, June 14.

Did you know that?

The first CMC's message was issued in Marine Corps Order 47, dated 1 November 1921. Below is the text of this message:

"On November 10, 1775, a Corps of Marines was created by a resolution of the Continental Congress. Since that date many thousand men have borne the name Marine. In memory of them it is fitting that we who are Marines should commemorate the birthday of our Corps by calling to mind the glories of its long and illustrious history.

The record of our Corps is one which will bear comparison with that of the most famous military organizations in the world's history. During 90 of the 167 years of its existence the Marine Corps has been in action against the Nation's foes. From the battle of Trenton to the Argonne, Marines have won foremost honors in war, and in the long eras of tranquility at home generation after generation of Marines have grown gray in war in both hemispheres, and in every corner of the seven seas, that our country and its citizens might enjoy peace and security.

In every battle and skirmish since the birth of our Corps Marines have acquitted themselves with the greatest distinction, winning new honors on each occasion until the term "Marine" has come to signify all that is highest in military efficiency and soldierly virtue.

This high name of distinction and soldierly repute we who are Marines today have received from those who preceded us in the corps. With it we also received from them the eternal spirit which has animated our Corps from generation to generation and has been the distinguishing mark of Marines in every age. So long as that spirit continues to flourish Marines will be found equal to every emergency in the future as they have been in the past, and the men of our Nation will regard us as worthy successors to the long line of illustrious men who have served as "Soldiers of the Sea" since the founding of the Corps."

Marines Hymn

The Army, after whatever the frick years, has no song of its own.

The tune most often associated with the Army is actually the Field Artillery March.

The US Army is and has been for many many years - a joke.

At least since the Doolittle Board. Which you also never heard of.

You have started to sniff your own farts there.

Look.

The Marines do what they do and they do it well.

The Army does what it does and they do it well.

On equal footing a heavy armored division from Army grinds a Marine division into the ground. On equal footing a Marine division grinds an Army infantry division into the ground.

We all do what we do. The Marines and the Army both bring something to the dance and they do it very well.

I do hope, as an exalted high potentate, you won't start handing out bans now.

I mean you are the one fair minded mod we all know of.

Though... I did warn you about Jim Chaney. Just saying. I have some good will built up right?

Great game by the Black Knights! I'm really happy to see that. I had a high school classmate who played for them back before anybody reading this was born, and his 60th was yesterday. So pretty darn good birthday present. I resented West Point (for good reason) while in the Army but am happy to see the streak stopped.
