I was under the impression that Richt recruited very well at UGA? Weren't they already ahead of almost the entire SECE in talent?

Richt's recruiting classes generally finished between 4-6 in the SEC. He never put together a class this good.

I think UGA has recruited much better than Georgia Tech since the beginning of football. But that hasn't kept Paul Johnson and his 1956 style offense from beating UGA quite often.

He's 3-6 against Georgia

Quite often? 3 times in 9 years is quite often? Sit down and let the grown men talk.

So Kirby has one class that is 3 or 4 slots better than the average Richt class and that's supposed to make him the second coming even though he lost to UF UT GT and Vandy.

No, we've only won the recruiting battle 4 times in the East since 2001.

If he recruits like this every year then it'll help.

A lot of times it's a self-fulfilling prophecy. Bama has had multiple guys skyrocket in the rankings after getting an offer from Saban.

Jon Gruden owns land in East Tennessee and would be very interested in coaching young Mariota 2.0 per back channels

Question for UGA fans: What does your returning lineup look like for next year as far as experience goes? Areas for confidence and concern?

I'm not reading through 3 pages so most of what I'm going to say has probably been menitoned already. It's a UGA thread though so felt I had to jump in.

Our lineup next year is going to be very good and overall should be improved from this year. Our defense has potential to be GREAT. We only lose Mo Smith and our safety Quincy Mauger who was pretty good. That's it. The linebackers should be awesome, DL and corners very very good. The vacated safety spot will either be Aaron Davis, who has started games since 2014, or maybe Lecounte if he's as advertised.

Offense should definitely improve. Eason will be a sophomore and I've posted some stats on our board the last few months showing the jump from freshmen to sophomore QBs...I'm not saying he'll be all-SEC but it's quite reasonable to expect him to make a jump in year 2. WRs should be better and Nauta and the TEs will be solid. RBs will be elite as we add Swift to Chubb/Sony/Herrian/Holyfield.

That leaves OL. People are going to look at the paper and say "you're losing 3 OL from a bad unit, you will probably suck" but that's very misleading. From the 2016 unit we lose an awful rhode island transfer at LT, an NFL-caliber guard who played out of position at RT, and an average center. Isaiah Wilson should start at RT the second he arrives. Sure there will be growing pains but it's impossile not to be excited. We have a highly ranked JUCO that will step in at LT..no it's not the absolute best scenario but it's damn sure an improvement. Our last year RG will slide over to center. We also have our overall best OL from last year, Isaiah Wynn, that can play either G or T that will fit in somewhere. And lastly, we have Wynn, RFr Ben Cleveland, Solomon Kindley, and TFr Netori Johnson to play with at guard.

Yes, I know there is a lot of youth which people will guffaw at, but everyone should know Sam Pittman is one of the absolute best in the business. Problem is that in year 1 he only had to work with what he inherited, which wasn't much. Pittman likes beef, similar to bama, and a lot of our guys were undersized or not any good. This year our line will be much bigger and immensely more talented.

As for confidence/concern:

-Our linebackers should be outstanding.
-QB, WR, and OL should all be improved
-TE should be just as good as last year, if not better. No reason for a drop off

-DL was VERY young last year aside from Thompson who is a beast, but they came on late like the last few games. No reason they shouldn't continue to improve. If we add solomon that only makes the outlook better
-K/P will probably be in flux a bit

Overall we should clearly be the favorites in the east. Another unspoken aspect is our schedule which is semi-favorable. We trade ole miss away for MSU at home, which is a plus. Bad thing is we get most of our toughies away from home at UT and AU.

As some other UGA posters said, 2017 is going to be tough because our OL sucked this year, and won't be getting much experience back there to build upon. More than likely will not be good in 2017 either. I hope I'm wrong. Because if I'm wrong, and the OL can give Eason time to let the routes develop, and actually open some holes for Chubb and Sony, then we'll win the National Championship.

Richt recruited "well". Typically around a 10th ranked class in the nation, but 4th or so in the SEC.

We have never, at any point in our history, recruited like we are right now. That's a fact.
