The salary details for two new Georgia assistants, offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and offensive line coach Sam Pittman have been released. According to memorandum of understanding (MOU) released by UGA obtained through and open records request, both coaches will have three-year contracts with Chaney earning $850,000 annually while Pittman will earn $650,000 a year.

Georgia can't be that dumb, can they? I mean they're basically paying $1.5 million for the 2013-2014 Arkansas offense.

2013 Arkansas offense rank: 103rd
2014 Arkansas offense rank: 58th

Guess Smart isn't that smart and Jim is taking UGA to the cleaners. Also why the frick is Jim getting paid more than Pittman??

Going out on a limb here and guessing he is getting paid more than because he is the OC, not just a position coach. Assuming that is pretty common.

Take a look at what we paid Brian Effing Schittenheimer...

Ultimately, we can afford to be wrong, but it hasn't happened yet, so let's see how the season plays out. I don't think there are a ton of UGA fans who are "thrilled" with the Chaney hire, so you're probably not going to get your desired effect here, but best of luck.

Also, Take a look at what you're paying Enos. Any wonder why he wanted to jump ship? I guess it's lucky that your AD required that nifty little non-compete. I'm curious what the language was on that actually... just wondering if some legal-ese might have been possible, as in brining him on as OC/Associate HC or some nonsense... at this point a moot point, but would have been a fun legal exercise.

He probably jumped ship because he knew he'd get overpaid by your dumbass administration.

Oh, and link on Enos wanting to jump ship.

Not bad. Auburn pays Rhett Lashlee $500,000 to be Gus' Yes Man. So UGA is getting a good deal.

No one is stressing about it. We're just laughing at paying a shitty OC that much money.

Just so we understand each other, this is not in any way a troll, but he's going to have access to better talent at UGA than Arkansas. That's just the nature of the recruiting beast. He could very well find some success. Or he could self-destruct. Either way.

Sure he will but not so much so that the offense is going to be in the top 20. If their defense is great then it won't really matter. Pittman is a great coach and with great talent Chaney can be ok but he is just not that great and was a strange hire coming from Georgia.

I am going to go out on a limb here and do something no georgia fan would ever do for Tennessee and actually defend this hire..... somewhat. Jim Chaney can be a really good offensive coordinator, it really just depends on how much Smart lets him do. When he was at Tennessee, he put together some pretty impressive offenses once he got a QB (bray), our 2012 season was one of the better offensive seasons i can recall us having in the last decade. Unfortunately it was without a doubt, far and away the worst defense we've fielded in my lifetime. My only knock on Chaney was he almost relied on the pass too much, i remember getting so pissed watching him call a 30 yard post route to hunter or darick on 3rd and 1 all the time. Usually it was covered and it was like they had no other options but to just chunk it out of bounds 10 yards past the receiver. Between his pass happy style and berts old school smashmouth style they seemed like oil and water from the get go. With the athletes uga will have he should be able to put something together unless smart wants to take him out of his element like bert did.

we had a ton of talent on offense in 2014 and he still couldn't do jack shite with it.

He was equally terrible at Tennessee. The fact of the matter is he has been an OC in the SEC for six years and only once had an offense finish in the top half of the league.

He also finished near the bottom of the ACC this past year after Pitt had been near the top the year before under Chryst.

As noted by the UGA fan above, they know that he is a meh hire and aren't fired up by it either. It's worth the role of the dice though to get Pittman on the payroll.

But I assume Smart is going to go down the Saban route. Saban has definitely changed up his offense since getting Kiffin but it is still smashmouth when needed. That is why it is a strange hire imo. Chaney loves to get cute when it is not needed. We had so many reverses on 3rd and short. It also doesn't look good when looking at what Enos was able to do his first year.

Were you born yesterday? Is this your first season following college football? "Official requests to contact" typically don't happen before "non-official contact" has occurred.

Let's put this in terms that might seem more realistic for you.

At your cashier job at Walmart, you get paid 5.50/hour. You work with a bunch of 3 toothed hicks and are moderately successful turning your store into the "nicest Walmart" in a 50 mile radius. You have a lot of fans at the store.

In the months leading up to Black Friday, you get an unofficial offer to work for Target and they'll pay you 8.50/hour with better benefits, you'll have better staff to work with, and the customers don't smell like rotting garbage. In talking it over with friends, they also seem to think that taking the job with Target would get you the necessary experience you might need to one day take over managing a store yourself!

Which one do you take? 850k vs 550k even after taxes (if you had a shitty accountant) is still ~$150k take home differential. That's a lot of quan to pass up to stay in Fayettenam.
