I have a friend who is a die hard Georgia fan. He thinks he knows everything about Georgia and about college football. He always brings up the 07 season and swears up and down that Georgia was way better than LSU that year and that they would have beat our arse. Thoughts on this?

UGA was definitely the hottest team along with USC at the end of the season. I believe the UGA/LSU game for the SECCG would have been really good, but I believe UGA would have won. We were firing on all cylinders on offense and defense. Stafford and Moreno were unstoppable and our defense was tenacious. No way it would have been an arse whooping, but I just don't see LSU winning that game.

We got blown away by TN and didn't even win the east. LSU was more consistent and a better team imo.

Lsu was undefeated save a couple multiple-overtime losses.

I think UGA would have beaten LSU at the end of that season, but UGA didn't deserve to win the national championship.

That's not intended to be a slight at LSU, who obviously had a very good team. UGA was basically steamrolling everyone by the end of the year.

Either people forget or choose not to acknowledge the plethora of injuries we had through that season

When healthy, that team destroyed people

That team would have benefited from a playoff style system, as they were definitely playing very well by the end of the season. They won their last six games by at least 10 points, beating 4 ranked teams during the streak.

However, they lost the important games earlier in the season and did not make the SECC game, so it was difficult to justify being in the natl champ discussion.

I believe UGA was the best team at the end of the season as well.

UGA would have beaten either OSU or LSU.

If you remember UGA was 4th going into CCG weekend behind , MIZZ, WV, OSU. After that weekend they were jumped by 3 teams and ended 5th.

If given the same scenario on the last few seasons , UGA would have played for the title. only recently has the big ESPN spin machine started pushing the whole " doesn't matter if you win you conference approach , but the eye test matters more". Back then they railed for the whole weekend how UGA didn't deserve it because they did not play for the CC.
Fast forward to 2011, it was reversed. If you look at OKST loss in 2011 and LSU losses in 2007 they are very similar. Both teams won their conference. However the spin changed by ESPN. Bama in 2011 and UGA both did not win the conference , but at least UGA split thier division title. And in 2007 the East was clearly stronger than the West.

All that's spilt milk and whatever, but that's my recollection.

Anyway , I'll always feel UGA would have beaten any team at the end of 2007. But take the melt against UT away , the 12-16 loss to USC was the down fall , seems like that second game always sets up the East, at least recently.

Georgia fans think Georgia would have beaten LSU? Shocking.

Win your division next time or change your name to Alabama

I have always felt UGA was just as deserving and of course the argument was..."well they didn't even win their conference"...which was a horrible reason not to put one of the two best teams in the big game...they were definitely the hottest team.

Hottest team =/= best team

The season doesn't start in the middle of October.

I always thought not winning your own division was a great argument for not making the national championship game but then 2011 Alabama came along and ruined that point

The most fun I probably had at a football game was in Athens when we beat Georgia 16-12 in 2007.

I gave an opinion. I felt like UGA's argument was just as good, if not better than LSU's to be in the big game. Deal with it...

Why is the last game of the regular season more important than the first? We still qualified for the SECCG, and after winning that we're voted into the BCSCG based on our entire body of work as compared to the body of work from the other top teams.

You can have whatever opinion you want, but if it doesn't make any logical sense I'm not going to give it any credence.

I'd rather not, because I can already guarantee this is just going to turn into a pissing match.
