It's the biggest city, the Capitol city, and by FAR the best sports facility in Georgia. Seems like a no-brainer

But it's not fair to always make somebody travel to the other end of the state when there are several CLOSER locations that would be suitable to host the event.
My personal take is you played every other game @ the school field, why should the playoffs be moved away from the school fields?

Jesus Christ. What a great example of an Olympics boondoggle. A modern stadium is only good for 20 years of service?

absolutely insane

Dome wasn't built for the Olympics.

It didn't have a rotating anal opening?

State titles should be played on neutral fields. We built interstates years ago where you could get straight there.

If the best facility in the state was in S. Ga it should be played there, but it's not.

When Cairo beat us years ago, I didn't hear any Cairo players/fans complaining about having to drive a little longer. Kids love playing there. When I played, we didn't make "State Title Game" shirts, we made "Road to The Dome" shirts.

Back in the 90's, state titles were won on SCHOOL FIELDS!
I'm unsure when that changed, but nobody had a problem with it that way.

It's a great experience for the kids to get to play on something better than a HIGH SCHOOL field for the championship. Plus, you were never interested in going to UGA SEC championship games?
For me it has been
3 Saints @Falcons games
2 SECCG-Bama vs Florida and Georgia
1 monster truck rally- dated a bit of a redneck back in the day

When it opened premium seating i.e. luxury suites weren't the cash cow they are now. And the the way the stadium was designed it didn't allow for an expansion/renovation that added a significant number of them.

And Atlanta wanted another Super Bowl

(a) built before the Olympics

(b) has/will host : Olympics, 2 Super Bowls, 3 Final Fours, 4 Sweet 16s, 1 Women's Final Four, 1 CFB Semifinal Game, 1 Sugar Bowl, 24 NFL Seasons, 3 NBA Seasons, 22 SEC Championship Games, 22 Peach Bowls, 10 SEC Basketball Tournaments, 2 ACC Basketball Tournaments, Gold Cup Soccer Matches, hundreds of concerts, hundreds of non-major sports events

(c) It, along with Centennial Park, basically completely revitalized 1/3 of Downtown Atlanta

Is it being demolished too early? Maybe. Boondoggle? Not even close. The Georgia Dome and the Olympics made Atlanta one of a handful of elite big event cities. It has paid for itself over and over again.

Yeah I don't mind what they are doing with the Georgia Dome.

Turner Field on the other hand...oooh boy.

Although the new Georgia State renderings they put out look very good. Can only help my Grant Park house continue to skyrocket. New housing bubble here we come baby.

I hate the Cobb aspect of it (even though it's literally across 285 from my office), but I get being ready to leave Turner Field (even though it's still plenty suitable for MLB baseball). I just wish they would have been able to find a place in West Midtown or closer to downtown than the current setup to do it. Honestly, if they just built a MARTA line to the Galleria I'd accept it (though that won't happen for a generation).

Yea - the latest Georgia State stuff is pretty cool looking.

LOL - Atlanta loves it's bubbles. Just look at the Midtown skyline right now. Anyone with a brain knows how that will end. But hey, just don't be the last one holding the door!

Absolutely nothing, it's not old, and is plenty big/nice, but these days stadiums need to be palaces like Jerry World.

If your stadium isn't worth a billion dollars it's considered "crap"

Yeah, this whole thing with tearing down perfectly fine stadiums is getting ridiculous. It's like if people can't get a Starbucks Iced Mocha Latte and a pedicure inside the stadium while watching a football game, then the place just doesn't have the amenities it needs and it has to be bulldozed. I always enjoyed the Georgia Dome and experienced some awesome atmospheres in there. Then again, I was always there to watch a football game.
