Perhaps the best $100 million ever invested by the state of Georgia. Without the Dome Atlanta does not get the Olympics,SECCG,2 Super Bowls,Final Fours, SEC Basketball Tourny and countless other events. And probably losses the Falcons to Jacksonville. Those events (mostly the Olympics and Centennial Park) completely revitalized that area of downtown to west midtown. Not a big government type but in this case the investment was well worth it.

It's incredible what West Midtown/Centennial Park have become (and will be in the next 5-10 years).

The Omni (and the parking garages underground aka bird poop alley) used to be a pretty scary area pre-Dome.

My list is like 75 falcons games, 2007 final four, Champions Classic in 2012 I think, USA vs. Jamaica gold cup semi, and that might be it. Never saw Georgia play there but might go to the unc game.

Bought my first home in that area in 2000 (Underwood Hills) before I moved to Decatur and still rent it out.
It was relatively inexpensive and a good location but little rough around the edges. It has completely changed since then, lots of teardowns, condos and restaurants.

Amazing Superdome is still around

The issue with the Superdome is that neither the state nor Benson will pony up $2B for a new stadium. The renovations from Katrina and latest renovations will keep it relevant, but won't be hosting a Super Bowl anytime soon. Realistically, it has 10 years left before talks of a new stadium start.

The SuperCross Event in February is the final scheduled event in 2017. I will be there.
I may have to see about going just to have been there at the beginning and at the end.

I wonder if there are any tix left for the last game at the Ted. I was at the first event at the Olympic stadium (Atlanta Grand Prix) and the first Braves game there (vs the Cubs). Would love to say I was at the last too.

So what was particularly wrong with it?

It was contaminated by Falcons.

Seen a lot of good stuff there

Been there for 4 SEC championship games (3 Alabama and one Auburn (wife is an Auburn grad))
2 Chick-Fil-A kickoffs
6 Falcons games
2 SEC Bball tournaments

Going tonight to first concert there - Guns N Roses (can't decide if it's going to be awesome nostalgia or depressing nostalgia)

How is as a concert venue by the way?

It's a damn shame, still have a piece of the roof on my bookshelf at home, with the score on it, from the tornado game.

So many memories there, including LSU beating Duke and Texas to advance to the 2006 Final Four.

Never been to it when it was set up for a show that was meant to be stadium sized, so I can't say for sure.

I will say that the Olympic celebration had several musical acts (James Brown, Gladys Knight, Alabama) and the acoustics were horrible. But that was right after the opening, so they may have figured out ways to improve it, and the big tours know how to pump sound across these big places, so you should be good soundwise. Visually, you shouldn't have an obstructed view, just depends on where you are as to how well you can see the stage.

I saw U2 there - it only works for a giant band with a giant stadium setup. It's not terrible, but it's not great.

Philips is a great venue for a concert, though.

Kentucky Basketball is 26-6 in the Georgia Dome with 6 SEC Tournament Championships (one loss to Florida in 2005).

The Dome also saw two UK NC teams play there (1998 1st and 2nd round and 2012 Sweet 16 and Elite Eight).

That and location. It would have to be torn down and a stadium built in the same place.

I'm going to miss the Ted and the Dome. Both were built when I was in my teens and I've been going to both almost every year since.

Countless SEC B-ball tournaments, several NFL games, dozens of Braves games, and even a couple of concerts at Turner Field. Sat in the outfield for a show about 12 years ago.

Yea, I saw Metallica and Dave Matthews there. Wasn't a terrible setup.

I think I was at that one too. Preseason game against the Eagles? Chris Miller hit Mike Haynes for a long touchdown if I remember correctly. And MC Hammer and his posse was there and did a couple of songs either pregame or at halftime.

Don't remember anything about the game, but it was preseason against Philly.

I think I still have a commemorative ticket and pin and whatnot somewhere.

Fan - yes! But I prefer high school & college fb. As I stated earlier, never been interested in the NFL.
As for college, I like going to Athens & getting the real excitement from being on campus.
On high school, the GHSA mandates that part of the playoffs HAS to be played in the Dome. As a S. Ga. person, I feel that's unfair because you're always forcing the southern part of the state to travel to play a game instead of having it in school stadiums. & yes, there's been times where the 2 teams participating were from the south - yet had to trek up to Atlanta. It wouldn't be an issue if they found a site in the middle of the state OR rotated it yearly.

RIP Georgia Dome. I will always remember playing in the SECCG there twice in our first 3 seasons.
