Saw this in an Alumni email the other day. I wasnt aware of it and is a great thing. Says they do it at many schools and guessing pro sports as well. I have had times, where because of my location and timing, I couldnt give my tickets away in time. You can electronically transfer them and they are tax deductible

Thirty-two soldiers soaked up the gameday atmosphere on The Plains and enjoyed a heart-stopping Auburn win on Saturday, thanks to a program started by the Columbus-Phenix City Auburn Club that has mushroomed into an outreach program with a national reach for veterans, combat wounded and active duty military.

While sending soldiers to Auburn games remains the primary focus of Gameday for Heroes, the program scores tickets for soldiers to games from Auburn and Tuscaloosa to Texas and beyond.

The purpose of the program isn't to recruit new Auburn fans. It's to give back to those who have given so much to America. Since the program's humble beginnings two years ago--when the club purchased a handful of Auburn season tickets for soldiers at Ft. Benning--more than 400 soldiers have attended Auburn football, baseball and basketball games.

They come as guests of fans who make financial contributions through the not-for-profit group or Auburn season ticket holders who donate unused tickets. Soldiers like Staff Sgt. Michael Pooler then fill their seats. Pooler came to his first Auburn game two years ago and has attended several since, thanks to the program.

Staff Sgt. Michael Pooler
"Your first time coming to an SEC football game is crazy," said Pooler, who was hit with shrapnel when a suicide bomber buried in the sands of Fallujah, Iraq, detonated a grenade a few feet from him. Pooler, now retired from the military, said taking in Auburn games is a healthy diversion.

I received quite a few opportunities to attend sporting events while I was stationed at Fort Benning.

Great charity, we always used them as our charity of choice for fraternity fundraising stuff when I was in school.
