Tell me about assistant men's basketball coach Matt Figger. He was just named as the new Head Coach at Austin Peay State University replacing long time coach Dave Loos.

Whoa...I don't think you can say that unless you are black.

He is going to be a good HC. He was our recruiting coordinator. Frank Martin actually just recently said that he is going to be a great head coach once given the opportunity.

Here is the quote:

quote:

“It’s just a matter of time,” Martin said this weekend. “Matt Figger is going to be an unbelievable head coach as soon as he given opportunity. I think Brad Underwood has shown that he’s pretty good at it. I go back to my high school days, I had six assistant coaches in my high school team become head high school coaches. I take a lot of pride. I give those assistants a lot of responsibilities, they will tell you.

“I’m trying to help them prepare to become head coaches, I ask them to teach, I ask them to coach.”

Seems like a big time hire for a school at Austin Peay's level.

He is I think like 48 or 49 years old, so he about on the same pace as Brad Underwood when he left South Carolina. Underwood went to Stephen F. Austin.

The Governors have a pretty good foundation. They've made the tournament twice since 2008 and, given their location, can likely pull some mid-major talent from KY and TN.

Boynton was initially hired at USC by previous HC Darrin Horn, but was retained by CFM when he took over. Boynton left with longtime assistant coach to CFM Underwood, when Underwood was hired at Stephen F. Austin, and then followed him to Okie St.

Another former ast. coach to Martin - Lamont Evans - went with Underwood and Boynton to SFA and then to OSU, and was retained by Boynton with the title of Assistant HC. He may be the next in line to secure a HC gig...

Are you saying Horn did something that wasn't a complete waste of time, money, and resources?
