Why is this called the game of the century? 5 FGs is the game of the century? Only 45 draft picks on those two teams?

Because they were better by a wide margin than any team in the country and their rankings going into the game...

38-7 and 37-6, that's why.

It's called that on the Rant because that was the last time LSU was significant

Must suck to get your arse beat by an insignificant team every year then.

At least LSU was once significant.

If that game played out the way the '12 game played out, it would get way more praise. It was hyped to be the game of the century for 2 weeks and the defenses proved that.

The 1998 Tennessee-Florida game was by far the better game.
20-17 in OT, first OT for both schools.
Even the 1999 Tennesee-Florida game was worlds better than.
23-21 Florida (came down to a 4th and 1 with 1 minute left).

Hell, let's add the 34 to 32, 2001 Tennessee-Florida game as being better than that borefest.

1998 or 1999 wasn't in this century. Kind of like most hopes and dreams of UT fans are in the distant past.

It was called the GotC prior to kickoff. Whether or not it lived up to the hype is up to subjective opinion.
But prior to it, it was pretty much the most hyped game of all time. The media had circled the game as the real national championship game of that year (without knowing about the rematch) at about week 4. Even with the media claiming that Alabama and LSU were the top two teams in the country by a wide margin, they continued to dominate the shite out of their opponents, evening embarrassing most of them by halftime. And probably most importantly, at that time, the Saban-Alabama-LSU rivalry was at its peak.

It just wasn't that good of a game and the talent on the field is dwarfed by many other games.

Pretty bad when your last notable games were last century.

I consider a Heisman trophy and a top 5 national finish to be pretty significant.

Most. No. Just one. Miami and Ohio State had more draft picks. But Alabama and LSU aren't done putting guys in the NFL from that game. Fifth year seniors have yet to leave.

Are you feeling left out by all the aTm LSU sniping lately?

Significant enough to dominate that Aggies arse.

Tennessee and Florida had 53 players drafted off their 1998 rosters and I'm not even counting 5th year seniors.
So there's at least 2. :)

That also wasn't this century.
