Game Management Experts or Auburn Fans: Explain Arthur's Thinking

In the game against LSU, Auburn scored a touchdown with 5:47 left in the game to draw to 45-21.

LSU sends the hands team out, and Auburn elects to kick it deep. OK, so Arthur is signaling that he believes the game is over.

LSU runs it three times, also playing its part in bringing the game to an end. Auburn then calls timeout with 3:43 remaining.

Why would he do that? The game is clearly over. Auburn isn't going to surmount a 24-point lead in 3 minutes. Does Auburn normally try to score "Oregon" touchdowns (touchdowns that attempt to make it look like a game was closer than it really was against backups). If Arthur didn't think the game was over, why didn't he kick onsides or call his other timeouts during the drive?

Seemed like a pretty lame call. Thoughts?

Probably not trying to win, but wanting time to throw reps to the offense for more "game time" evaluation.

Didn't onsides so LSU knew we werent trying to win but still wanted to see what the offense could do.

This is pretty much what Stan White said on the radio broadcast.

So why does he need the timeout? He couldn't do that with 3:07 left? We know now that Auburn went three and out and punted on fourth down. The point is further clouded by the fact that Auburn didn't use four downs on that possession.
