The state of Alabama isn't poor, it's just stupid.

I would not say we are stupid but we have had some politicians who like to spend above their means.

Actually it is relatively poor as well. Ranks 46/50 in median household income.

Which is why this makes sense.

Bama has been spending like a drunken sailor. Tution is relatively low. Bama has never been a wealthy university. It's alumni are in the bottom half of the sec in earnings. We know how bama has pumped money into the categories that us news uses for it's rankings to try to raise bamas ranking. The research stuff makes sense.

All adds up so to speak.

The entire mentality ingrained in the leadership at Alabama will never allow that university to evolve or grow in a notable way.

It's backwards.

There is a direct correlation with being good at football and being poor. The Big 2, baby.

Alabama's tuition is the most expensive public school tution in the state of Alabama. As for wealth Alabama has an endowment that in the top five of SEC schools. AUs endowment is in the bottom 3 (thank God for Mississippi eh API?) AUs enrollment has barely increased in the last 10 years. I think AU almost losing its accreditation as a university cost it dearly. AU has like an 80% acceptance rate and they still cannot grow (Bama has a 57% acceptance rate by comparison). AU is having a very hard time getting students to go there.

This is intentional. No one at Auburn wants the university to become a huge state school like you, UGA, Florida, Tennessee etc.

You'll still see enrollment at Auburn grow in the coming years, but at a slow rate.

I myself wouldn't mind seeing Auburn enrollment decrease, and I know many others share the same sentiment.

As has been stated...the reason Bama's acceptance rate is down to 57% is because they are turning down several in-state students who apply. You can have half a brain and apply out of state and be accepted.

LOL - Wut????......you do realize it was the leadership of the BOT that made UAB what it is today....everyone talks about what a world class R&D institution UAB has become...that was by design.Bama bifurcated the two 50 years ago. The undergrad. experience play is on the Tuscaloosa campus, the R&D play is on the Birmingham campus. The two campuses are like 45 minutes from each other. It's not practical to have both...The Bama BOT made that decision 50 years ago.

UAB went through 40 years of incredible growth. It has become what it is today because of the BOT. Now the Tuscaloosa campus is getting a lot of focus.

...and I would like to hear from TnM or any other AU poster to tell us what remotely AU has accomplished that would be comprable to UAB and its impact on the State of Alabama.
