Hopefully they have been charging students a Student Rec fee to fund it!

In the south, every body wants an athletic program. I love sports, but there are things that take higher precedence in life.

With that said, I long for the day when "research" wasn't the alpha and omega in academia.

He is a UAB alum and his whole article is full of shite. We went through this before. UAB is in the middle of building new residence halls, rec centers and a wellness center Hardly what you do if you are ending undergraduate programs

FWIW, LSU is doing all of the above.

"UAB" is already primarily the medical school. Even though as I've said plenty of times on this board they are two separate things. UAH is primarily a math and science school. These are already the primary focuses of these universities.

ETA: Why do we care what some associate professor in Geography has to say just because he got an undergrad math degree from UAB?

Right next to that it says he got his masters in mathematics. There is a TON of math that goes into GIS stuff and mathematicians tend to make great programmers.

That's par for the course in his field.

Okay... but what does that have to do with State or University debt? He's not even a professor in our system and doubt he has any serious connections just from his time spent in undergrad at UAB..

So the frick what? I'm an electrical engineer, and just because I know math and how to program doesn't mean I'm qualified to assess the economic health of a public university.
