Why is it that OM coaches feel the need to get in bed with the devil? It is tough enough for a HC to manage good kids coming into their respective programs. But when you have a known BAD APPLE, guess it shows desperation. Has not worked in the past, will be interesting.
(However, true to his tumultuous past, Kelly almost blew that opportunity less than two weeks after he signed to play with Freeze, when he was arrested following a 3 a.m. altercation at a downtown Buffalo bar and restaurant, according to the Buffalo News' Joseph Popiolkowski. He faced numerous charges after allegedly punching a bouncer and scuffling with police.
Kelly didn't provide any details about what his subsequent conversation with Freeze was like, only describing it as an extremely uncomfortable phone call. But when they hung up, the coach still stood behind the transfer. Freeze told Houston Sports Zone he and Kelly would "give it a go together." Kelly enrolled in January and eventually accepted a plea agreement to a non-criminal charge of disorderly conduct and 50 hours of community service.

Who cares about MGK? He couldn't even start at Clemson. I'm betting he gets rolled big time,as soon as the Bears play any team with a pulse. I think Ole' Miss is one vastly overrated team this season. Their offense was lifeless last year and if anything they have less firepower there this season. They will miss Pruitt and co in the backfield a lot more Than they will admit.
Anyway to answer your question, it's because they have to,dance with the Devil. They are a bottom dwelling school in the conference and in order to make a wave every few years they have to take big risks. Sometimes it works out, more often than not it doesn't.

Nutt was/is a very good recruiter.
He could often out kick his coverage and land a guy or two in a class that he really had no business in landing.
His main problem was/is/will always be he is lazy. He would spend all his effort on 2-3 guys per class, then go for the low laying fruit to fill out the class. Mostly by numbers, sign 3 hope one works out.
He also had a habit of taking the thug POSs who could play and had talent, but no reputable program would take a chance on them. He would often use the bible to justify taking these guys because everyone needs a second chance/helping hand, they need the team more than the team needs them, etc, except 2 of those 3 above, they messed up and they were booted from the team before the facts of alleged incidents came to be.
These types of guys seem to thrive in getting jobs in the South.

Kelly is known throughout college football as "that kid who gets in trouble." Through a roller coaster six-year stretch leading up to his arrival in Oxford, his highs and lows can only be described as extreme..... Christopher Walsh - SEC Writer
