Interesting Q&A with some former players.

quote:

The biggest thing about Coach Jones is he actually does his job. Unlike that guy we call Derek Doolittle, who really did very little.

quote:

Derek Dooley was a loser. He'll always be a loser and he rubbed off on the program and created a losing attitude

First Will Blackwell and now this. I guess I missed the memo that it was "Bash Your Former Coach Because You're A Has Been" month.

Butch does his job... except for the time he squared off against Dooley.

After we rehabilitate Kiffin, we'll start working on Dooley.

As somebody who went 45-5 while I was at UT, that's a place I care a lot about and I'm just glad that there's somebody in charge again who gets it and who wants to be there and take the program back to where it was and where it should be. For Coach Jones to embrace us and bring us back in is a big deal for us."

Tennessee has had one winning season since 2007. You can thank Lane Kiffin for that lone season.

Dooley walked off with $10 million (including buyout) in 3 years while being totally incompetent. Where can I sign up? you just can't lose in this profession.

Sparty, you don't know the half of it. I know an older pro and UT player that had a lot of direct experience with Dooley. This is one of happiest go-lucky guys you'll ever meet - just an all around great person and fun loving person. I've known the guy most of my life and never heard him speak ill of anyone with exception of Dooley who he absolutely couldn't stand (and remember he came into contact with him a lot).

The thing is he's not alone. Wilhoit, for example, can't stand Dooley. Remember our kicking woes under Dooley? Not only did he tell Wihoit to frick off, he told Palardy "not to screw it up" whenever he'd go out there to kick. No wonder Palardy sucked under Dooley only to turn around and turn have an award winning year under Jones and make an NFL team.

And there are several other 'names' you might recognize that made it no secret how Dooley treated them (Dooley treated everyone poorly but he basically locked out our player alums from being able to freely visit).

It was worse than the people realize. The man was arrogant, pompous, and an arse. He just had a better public image than Kiffin did but honestly Kiffin treated people better despite also being a pompous arse.

I was in camp with an ex-volunteer and he said he Dooley was a racist psychopath. All cursing and saying racially insensitive crap all the time. We use to laugh at his Dooley impersonations.

Funny what happens to losing programs....

Give it about two more seasons when all of these same people turn on Butch Jones.

Dooley is a good coach and had a tough go at UT. You guys keep bashing his head in, but he is not as bad as UT "fans" make him out to be.

Kiffin shafted you guys, I can honestly see the anger and resentment. But okay we get it, you think Derek Dooley single handedly destroyed your program, and that Butch Jones is going to save the program and bring it back to where it once was. But Butch Jones' track record isn't/wasn't any more or less impressive than what Derek Dooley's was, before he got to UT.

There are positives and negatives to every coaching tenure. Every time an argument is brought up regarding UT football, you guys hide behind Derek Dooley as your lone reasoning.

I know someone personally that played for Coach Dooley at La Tech, said consistently he was one of the nicest and most genuine coaches he had ever met. That he was the most available and open coaches he had ever been coached by. That does not change over night.

Dooley is a Georgia Bulldog at heart and he was raised to hate the Vols. I think subconsciously he just had to sabotage them despite having conscious good intentions.

1). I am not a Rocky Top fan.
2). Rocky Top is right behind Auburn on my list of teams I hate
3). This happened before Dooley was fired (his last season I think)
4). I didn't argue anything for or against Dooley, I simply shared a story of my experience.
5). Dooley according to this player was a loose canon, temperamental, etc. Our position coach even co-signed it.
6). I don't really care if you believe me or not, again just shared an experience.
