Honestly I see it both ways

Before the playoffs were setup, everybody somewhat viewed the regular system as a playoff.

LSU beating Bama at Bama, and then having to play an extra game in the SEC championship while Bama sat home due to losing does not make much logical sense at all. That is a hard sell to me

Point 2

Bama was clearly one of the two best teams, so them being chosen as the second team makes sense.

I go back and forth with this. But ultimately, I do think it is a ridiculous concept that a team lost at home, and was rewarded by not having to play an extra game that the team that beat them had to play.

He’s saying they were able to win the game because they ran the option when Saban wasn’t expecting it. It caused Saban to change his own game plan and it didn’t work out to his benefit

But that didn't happen. We didn't change our gameplan on defense. LSU had one drive of over 45 yards the entire game (it came right before halftime and led to a FG). LSU scored 9 points. 6 of them where when their offense got the ball at the Alabama 25 yard line or closer in.

LSU won that ballgame because they bowed up when Alabama got to the 30 yard line and forced us into long field goals. We moved the ball pretty well between the 30s for most of the game, but LSU stiffened and never gave in. Then, when they got a shot, they made plays (the INT on the Maze pass, a few huge sacks and TFLs, the INT on McCarron, a huge sack in OT).

Looking at the Reddit user’s history, he claims he just moved to NYC for law school.

Can’t be too many players from the 2011 team doing that. Shouldnt be hard to figure out who it might be.

Ehhhhh. I think we lose if Lee plays the whole game. I think the change in play was enough to squeak out the narrow win

Was a walk-on for a couple years under Miles (2011-2012).

So this walk on of one year was making suggestions at half time of the NCCG and wondering why coach wasn't listening to him? And he had a beef with Miles?

That's possible, but only magnified because of what LSU did on defense.

We didn't capitalize on good drives into LSU territory while LSU did capitalize, enough, on our mistakes to get to OT. Then in OT LSU made 2 plays (Montgomery sack and Ford run) to our 0 plays. That was the difference in a 52 yard missed FG and a 25 yard made FG.

So you say that Bama moved the pall prett well, but lsu didnt have success on offense

Bama only had 56 more yards....

Who deserved it over the team that held the #2 ranking for the last 3 weeks of the year and beat every opponent on their schedule by double digits?

The Oklahoma State team that lost to 6-6 Iowa State in week 12, who would have had to jump from #5 to #2 to get into the game?

Oh. Okay.

Pretty well BETWEEN THE 30s. We had 1 3 and out the entire game. But, once we nudged past mid-field/the 40 LSU made plays.

Les was right about Jefferson being the key to the first game. Thing is, we already played that card and Sabah was ready for it. I still don't know why we never tried a different approach. Hey Les, it isn't working--try something else. Anything else.

Lee needed to play. Simple as that. He didn't and we died a slow death by suffocation. Killed LSUs program right there because Les lost the team.

Anyways, good post. Would read again.

This is a fair point

But can you concede it seems illogical, and is very hard for an lsu fan to swallow, that by winning the so called "game of the century" on the road meant nothing. Actually, it meant we had to win an extra game. Winning that game for LSU was a negative in two ways: had to play an extra game, and then had to play a team you had already beaten in a dogfight

SO if we only had 56 less yards, we must have moved the ball pretty well somewhere on the field right?

I 100% get why it would be tough to take. 100%.

When yards and points are hard to come by everything gets magnified quite a bit more hahaha.

The entire game was a field position war that for the most part we won. But it didn't matter because we could never capitalize on it, and then the Wing punt, the Maze INT and the McCarron INT completely flipped all of it.

LSU made plays.

None of the things this player said we're incorrect. How much LSU has squandered because of the stubborn megalomaniac. He needed to go when the fourth quarter struck zero in that game. Alas...

I can absolutely understand why LSU fans hated and still hate it. We would have hated it if the roles had been reversed, for sure. But none of that means Bama didn’t deserve it.

I honestly dont think lsu gets a rematch. I think being able to get a rematch while losing your own conference and division is for a select few schools only.

You seem to forget that Ok St's loss was on a controversial field goal just after a tragic plane crash. If not for either of those, there's not even a discussion to be made.
