In the complaint, submitted Tuesday in Shelby County, Ala., where Carter resided, he claims Kiffin deliberately misled him regarding a job on the FAU football staff in order to benefit from his family relationship with a prospect.

In sure this type of behavior only happened before and after Bama.

What's so bad is he let that dude and his wife quit their jobs and move to a job he was told he had and they 'worked' recruiting for Kiffin all the way up until signing day. It's one thing to take advantage of relationships to land a recruit but that ratchets up the sleaze factor. Don't put someone else's livelihood and even their living conditions on the line.

Wow, I haven't heard AC Carter's name in years. Title is a bit misleading, the fact that AC Carter played at Alabama and this being Lane Kiffin really have nothing to do with eachother. He didn't play for Kiffin at Alabama.

AC Carter played at Alabama under DuBose and Fran. He was a graduate assistant at Alabama early in the Saban era.

It's sort of nice to be able to hate Lane Kiffin again. This feels much more natural for me.

Saban did a good a job as anyone possibly could in keeping Freshwater on the reservation. It was inevitable that it bit him in the arse as we all saw in January.

Well in all honesty, I don't see how Kiffin could have known that Carter wouldn't pass the background check?

Kiffin may have thought it was a done deal and told Carter to come on down.....only to later find out that Carter had a couple of marks against him on the background check and couldn't be hired permanently.

Yeah...a minor detail that the OP neglected to mention.

A couple of misdemeanor convictions would disqualify anyone from getting hired at a school.

OP FAIL!

It depends on what was discussed before the check. If it was already disclosed, and this is just being used to screw him out of the job, then that's one thing. If it wasn't already discussed and indicated that it wasn't a problem, and then it came up as new info in a background check, then Carter has no leg to stand on.

I would guarantee you that the school, any school, has a policy about criminal convictions even misdemeanors that preclude you from being hired.

That said, I will acknowledge your point that Kiffin could have mislead him. More likely is that the coach didn't tell him that or that Kiffin is just clueless.

...but with misdemeanors on his record, he probably doesn't have much of a leg to stand on.

Every school is different with their hiring requirements. But Carter has no leg to stand on because apparently FAU automatically disqualifies candidates with misdemeanors on their record.

There are probably several scenarios of how this whole thing transpired, but all Kiffin has to say is that he "thought" it was a done deal, move on down......then when FAU's HR folks pulled the background check it quashed the whole deal.
