FLORENCE — Former University of Alabama and Russellville High football player Brent Calloway is free on bail after his arrest over the weekend on drug charges, police said.
Calloway, 22, of Florence, is charged with felony unlawful possession of dangerous drugs and second-degree possession of marijuana, police said.
Florence police Sgt. Scott Perkins said the arrest occurred at 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Perkins said Calloway was pulled over after he ran a red light at Wood Avenue and Hermitage Drive.
"A drug dog was called to do a search on the outside of the vehicle," Perkins said. "It gave an indication that the odor of drugs was present."
Police recovered 8 grams of spice, which is synthetic marijuana, and a small bag containing marijuana, Perkins said.
Calloway was released on $4,000 bail, police said.
This was not Calloway's first brush with the law.
In 2013, Calloway was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card. He admitted using a student's university action card/debit card and knowing it was stolen.
