Why do we watch it? I didn't even watch the end of the Sugar Bowl. Hearing Mus rationalize why he's ok rooting for the guy who cold-cocked a girl at a bar, well...that was my exit point.

It's dumb. All the teams play again next year. It's ridiculous watching grown men talk about "adversity", etc on sideline interviews, as if the activity in which they are engaged carries some real meaning and significance.

My baby boomer father passed the "football sickness" to me. He's old enough to remember when it wasn't about money and was actually about school pride. Men were men, women were women, and guys who beat up women weren't held up as heroes.

Yeah... those guys also didn't think women should be allowed to work

Women have always been "allowed" to work. The great deception was convincing women they would find fulfillment being office drones.

I was just thinking to myself how someone like Jeremy Johnson, who has done nothing but stay the course and try his best, is in all likelihood less liked than Mixon is at OU. I dunno, I just felt terrible for Jeremy Johnson tonight. With player constantly transferring and feeling so entitled, it's nice to see someone stick it out

It is inherently stupid. Whether it's UFC or football, we just enjoy watching people beat the shite out of each other. Our species also still maintains a clan/tribe-like mentality that pertains to the teams or schools we associate with. And life sucks, it gives you something to think about other than your bitching wife or husband and your shitty job for awhile.

*Mixon's return and the fawning over him represents everything wrong with football and sports in general. A fricking second chance comes usually when you face consequences, but Mixon goes about his life because he's a good RB - anyone else probably would have faced at least a couple of months in jail and their life over because it would follow them forever.

"I hope he has a great career in the NFL!!" frick off, Brent.

I reached this moment while watching Auburn's clock-keeper steal seconds off the clock over and over during LSU's last drive. Then everyone acts like his keeping was the official record.

Poor kids are fighting corrport officials, corrupt game clocks, corrupt alumni, paid players, corrupt conference offices with agendas.

NFL has become the more pure league and it can be manipulated by Vegas. Football is becoming crap. You're astute for noticing.

I've never been one of those super fanboys, but stuff like this (and the Hogs sucking) is why I've found myself trying to devote significantly less time and energy toward watching and/or caring about sports.

It's disgusting how the media - and fans have in large part stupidly bought into this - advances a narrative about how players can "redeem" themselves through on-field success, as if somehow Joe Mixon is suddenly a good guy again and forgiven because he played well in a football game, or that all is forgiven and forgotten with Penn State because they won the Big Ten. Go try to explain that to the girl Mixon knocked out, or the myriad victims of Jerry Sandusky who were raked over the coals by the Penn State truthers.

This absurd "sports as redemption" narrative culture started years ago, but it was kicked into overdrive when Michael Vick came back into the NFL with the Eagles and had that one great season. As if that somehow erased what he did.

LSU summed up nicely, and accurately.

Just look at what 8 years of Obama has done to all of you. You're all pajama boys now, don't worry Trump is here to make America great again.

Take a second to think "what if it's all true". Only way to compete is to become corrupt yourself which only further ruins the sport.

it has gotten less enjoyable over the years. some of that due to life, etc. so much is about money. even saban commented on how the focus is solely on the playoff- making the other bowls irrelevant/obsolete. I think they hyped the playoff more than the damn super bowl. its gotten to be such a cash cow. espn controls the whole thing. their stranglehold over games, times, etc. has lessened it a good bit for the older fan. I find myself enjoying the "purity" of sports such as college baseball more and more. for most programs, its a money loser. the want to manipulate and cheat is less. these kids generally go to class, graduate and stay out of trouble. we give passes to stud players and preach about ruining young mens lives, all for the sake of winning. lets face it, if Jeremy hill, joe mixon, cam robinson, manziel, etc weren't 5 star studs, theyd have seen their careers go down the drain. generally, the sidewalk fan cares nothing about the games' integrity, as long as they can fly their flag and live vicariously through their team's football success.

Sometimes I think about how much of my life I've wasted watching a meaningless game. Maybe after the Saban run ends, I'll devote my Saturdays to some other pointless distraction instead.

Yeah, like watching Dabo win multiple titles there. SEC football is like a heroin addiction for hardcore, lifelong fans and you can double that for Bama fans. You're not going anywhere.

It's dumb how the media and fans continue to advance the narrative that the sec is the best conference in football
