Florida trashed New Mexico State on Saturday night. It was not the result of the game that was surprising, but the result of the quarterback battle that was expected to be settled in the game.

Both quarterbacks played extremely well and made Coach Mac's first important decision as the head coach of the University of Florida even tougher.

Both quarterbacks played so well, in fact, that they had two of the top seven QBR's among all of the quarterbacks in the nation.

Will Grier went 15-17 164 yards and 2 TD; 4 carries for 43 yards and a TD
Treon Harris went 14-19 214 yards and 2 TD; 3 carries for 13 yards

The battle will continue into the ECU game and (hopefully) be settled for the SEC opener at Kentucky in two weeks. Is this a good problem to have? Do you think Florida should explore a two QB system? Discuss

Coach Mac

If those players buy into what he's selling, Florida will be winning the East again very soon. He's the real deal.

I think Bama fans slobber over McElwain more than Saban actually.

As to the OP. How many two QB systems have ever really worked?

Florida has had a few that worked. Chris Leak and Tim Tebow comes to mind. Doug Johnson and Noah Brindise. Spurrier has made them work in the past, but as of now Mac is no Spurrier

Bama kicked the shite out of Florida twice in one year with a 2 QB system in 1999 on its way to an SEC Championship and a loss to Tom Brady in the Orange Bowl.

Florida won the SEC and National Championship with a 2 QB system in 2006.

Florida isn't really working with a 2 QB system right now. They have a competition going.

And in my mind there is no question it's Will Grier. He is the future of UF football. Kid is a stud and has a nice release and really seem to take control of the team. I am scared shitless as an OM fan for this game. Will be there though The Swamp is a second home to me, but everyone that thought UF was a gimmie win this year is so very wrong.

Not once did I see Grier hesitate last night. Harris second guessed himself and used his legs to make plays for him. He scrambled until he found an open receiver. Grier hit his intended mark every play. When it comes to SEC play, Harris will be on the bench.

As will be the battle to find the local perps who scouted, stalked and eventually robbed the NMS buses at your stadium. Shame.

That latest unpleasantness aside, I hope yall win the east sooner than later. Y'all are generally good people and anyone who hates uga as much as they desrve to be hated is a-ok in my book

agreed he is the real deal, and if they get some bounces they might suprise the East this year.

Grier definitely looks like he's going to get the job as of right now. I think he looked better, and that release is special.

Plus, he has the better looking girlfriend.

Btw, who had the #1 QBR?

Grier was #4 in the nation.

Harris was #7.

Wait til SEC play to declare a winner, remember Treon entered on the road in the 4th quarter facing a two score deficit and led a comeback to beat what is-- at least technically-- an SEC team in Tennessee.

Neither would be above 3rd string at UT, and congrats for barely beating Justin frickin Worley. Poor offense on our part won't be there to save you like it was last year.

IIRC Leak played 80% of the time, and Tebow was only used in short yardage, goal line, and a few other certain scenarios.

Watching this game closely it is obviously Grier who is the better thrower of the two. You cannot imagine what some Gator fans are talking about (and a few non Gators)unless you watch him throw. He possesses rare talent...wait til the SEC watches this guy destroy defenses.

Grier is a special talent and has only begun to scratch the surface. I know it sounds like hyperbole....but I also felt the same about Matthew Stafford as far as arm strength...at an early stage at UGA he showed promise with his ability to throw long outs.

Hopefully Grier stays grounded with the hype he is getting like when word got out he was dating ex Tampa Bay Buccaneer cheerleader...it went full jacket. He redshirted last year and appears to have good family stock.

I am hoping Treon stays at UF...he is only 5'11" but has great vision and play making ability. He still has a redshirt to give and it will be tempting for him to transfer rather than be backup...its a shame that the kids nowadays dont usually have the patience to wait. Treon started 7 for 7 in first half against NMS and has that ability to throw on the run when necessary.

The backup qb is just an injury away from playing a lot of snaps...a case in point is Brissett...who was neck and neck with Driskel when both were true sophs...Driskel beat him out and Brissett transferred to NC State and sat a year...Driskel broke his leg and if Brissett had of stayed...he would have been the starter for 8 games.
