Florida has fired offensive coordinator Brent Pease after the program's first losing season since 1979, the school said Sunday.

Pease was let go one day after the Gators (4-8) ended the season with a 37-7 loss to rival Florida State. Offensive line coach Tim Davis was also fired.

This is where we find out how good of a coach Will Muschamp is and how much pride and heart Florida's players have, Edward Aschoff writes.

Despite the changes to the offensive staff, the father of QB Will Grier -- No. 34 in the ESPN 300 and No. 2 dual-threat QB says his son is fully committed to the Gators and will enroll in January, Derek Tyson writes.

"I have a lot of respect for Coach Pease and Coach Davis," coach Will Muschamp said in a statement. "They are both good football coaches and even better people. There have been a lot of unfortunate circumstances this year, but that is part of the game sometimes. I want to thank each of them for their contributions to the program both on and off the field."

The Pease move had been expected for weeks, as the losses mounted and it became clear Muschamp would make changes on the offensive side of the ball.

Why couldn't Pease save his job with the injury excuse like his boss?

Maybe because the offense has been shitty for the past two years.

pretty much this. If the offense had been solid last year while healthy, Pease would still be there under the injury excuse.

rumor floating around is Major Applewhite being targeted as a replacement?

Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic was more productive.

The biggest part of the HC job, besides recruiting and keeping everyone on the same page, is staff hires. E-dash is right, Boom needs to make a good OC hire.

The reports that Davis and Pease didn't get a long over Pease's play calling are heartening. Maybe Boom wasn't calling as much as everyone thought he was.

Now that this has been done, I don't really care what kind of offense we have, I just hope Boom snags someone that can win with what we have and then stays out of the way even if it isn't exactly what he envisioned we he first came here. Fundamentally, I agree with his philosophy that being able to own the LOS, run the ball, and field a salty D wins championships, but it ain't working here. I also don't think that is the only way to get to Atlanta. OL guys take too long to develop to expect it to magically start working next year, so I'd love to see someone that understands how to maximize what we have and then let him have the total freedom to do it.

You know you want to promote Joker.

In all seriousness, Joker was never a bad OC or position coach. Sucked complete arse as a HC and recruiter, but is a good OC.

Joker's done a really good job with the WRs for UF this season, but yeah, he wasn't a bad OC at UK.

Only part of the offense that I have been somewhat pleased with.

The problem Boom is going to have is what good coach is going to be willing to move his family for what could be only one yr if Boom does not turn the team around and gets fired?

Precisely why you promote Joker. Much easier to hire a new WR coach than an OC...

Yeah, Weis had a really good thing going. It's been shitty for a while, ever since we were trying to play Booster Brantley.

Dammit, The Cocks split this 1-1. Pease was fired but at least Grantham will still be at UGA.
