I don't say that because of national championship teams were in there but....I feel Muschamp implanted an awkward culture of defense into a school that is far from it traditionally.
These Florida teams under mcElwain have been consistent and pretty good for the most part under a new coach but, it just feels weird seeing Florida win slugfests instead of blowouts and shoot outs don't you think?
I don't know. Just an observation.

If UF gets a QB, UF is a contender.
This has been the case every year since Tebow left.

Being a fan of UF since the mid 70's I just want us to be well balanced. SOS being more Offensive minded they would try and out score you. Urban was similar but more evenly balanced I think.
Do I miss those times? Hell yes. CN we get back there with the current coach? Not so sure. Was hoping to see more from the Offense by now.

Dude McElwain is coaching a team with NOTHING at QB.
We saw what McElwain's offense could do with Grier at QB last year.
Get a legit QB, and UF will be once again an offensive juggernaut.

Who's in the pipeline for Florida? They've whiffed on every quarterback for a decade, and Mac isn't exactly a big recruiter

This is the whole story in a nutshell. UF has pretty much always had a good defense, Champs D was no better than any other. It's just that we've had no real leadership on offense in 8 years. One Fn' player at the QB position and the whole dynamic starts to change.

Franks
Trask
Allen (2017 recruit)
Del Rio will be back next year (hopefully completely healthy)
Im betting UF will start Franks against Michigan next year. From all reports, hes really improved since coming into UF in the Spring and hes leaped Trask for the backup spot.

make no mistake, Florida's defenses during the Urban Meyer years were fantastic. Their defense is why they won the BCS Title in 2006. They had great defenses under Spurrier too. I think what you meant to say is, is it weird seeing Florida have below average offenses now. The run a very vanilla pro style offense now as opposed to the fun and gun and the spread

Yes, exactly. I knew that's what I was thinking but I couldn't really put it in words properly.

Disagree somewhat. Our 2012 defense was as good or maybe better than any of our NC defenses. Considering the offense it had to carry to an 11-2 record.

UF wasn't winning 55-52 during Spurrier's run. I think his offense just made you forget about his defenses.

Spurrier had a couple good defenses with Stoops but before that they were amoung the worst in the SEC.
What he had going for him was when he came in to the SEC your goal was to score 24 points and take 4 quarters to do it. Your offense was built to slowly, methodically win the game. SEC QB's senior year in high school had stats like 65 of 100 for 1400 yards and 12 TD's.
Spurrier came in and brought a pass first offense. He threw nothing but flags and posts and just threw so many that eventually you would hit some. Then, he had 24 points in the first qtr. Even though his defenses weren't good he was so dam productive on offense that you couldn't catch up. When other teams started putting more emphasis on offense he didn't dominate the same way but Spurrier paid very little attention to defense, if any at all.
Urban was a more complete coach.

You are dead wrong about this.

He's right to an extent. It took the Nebraska beatdown to make him really care about that side of the ball.

They don't miss it at all they still have their Jorts and delusions of grandeur I see it every day.

Yep. Nebraska was the final straw.
Spurrier had been struggling with FSU for several years. Talent-wise the teams were pretty evenly matched overall. I don't know if FSU had most of their talent on defense or if their DC was better, but either way the Noles defense was better than the Gators in the early 90s.
In '95 Spurrier finally managed to beat Bowden in route to a perfect regular season, only to get curb stomped by the Cornhuskers in the NCG. Spurrier fired his DC (Prewitt?) following the blowout and hired Stoops, without which I doubt the gators win the 96 championship

Wrong....those were Ron Zooks defensive players that won the BCS in 2006...in 2008, yes...Urbans team.

We all miss having an offense . I think Spurrier hates it more then anyone . Every time he is on TV he has a comment about the offense. We have had really good defenses for the most part for 10+ years . Muschamp didn't make the defense much better then it was , he made the offense a lot worse. Hopefully next year one of the freshmen win the starting QB job and get to play the entire year.

There was nothing wrong in his statement. 2006 was an Urban Meyer year. The defense was fantastic. Doesn't matter who recruited them.
