Kentucky had the checkered end zones first. Stoll Field had it in the 30's. Tennessee started it at Neyland in the 60's.

Nope...pictures show that they didn't actually show up on Stoll field until the late 50's to mid 60's. It looks like they were about the same time that the put them in Neyland...which were both after they were in place at Alabama.

I'm getting so rustled at the implication that Kentucky football isn't very good. Literally shaking with rage.

We've gone over this before. I'm not a basketball fan and have a strong dislike for Kentucky basketball in particular.

I'm a Kentucky football fan. I'm sorry that it doesn't make me all butt-hurt that they aren't very good.

Cool story bro, other than the fact you're completely wrong.

That is a good thing...As for me...I did grow up a Kentucky basketball family...my whole family is from Kentucky (moved to Tennessee before I was born).

Not many posters on here can say that they actually attended a game in Commonwealth the last time Kentucky was at the top of the SEC in football (well...they were undefeated in the SEC, but ineligible for the title). It was a long ride back to Knoxville with my dad singing "Uck beat Utt"...

good times.

Even better story..."bro"...they have lights on the field...McLean Stadium didn't have lights in the 30's (the picture is mislabeled)....try again.

Overhead shot of McLean Stadium from 1946...notice anything missing??? How about the lights and endzone bleachers from your picture that is labeled as from 1930?

How about an aerial view from 1956??? No checkerboards there...and the lights still don't appear to be there.

How about "pro" for professor, since apparently you know more about our history than the University of Kentucky itself. That is from the schools digital archive. The picture is accurate, you're not, get over it.

We're didn't keep the checked end zones long. I don't think they were even there still in the 40's.

Only thing that's going to pop on that field, is Kentucky's dreams of success.

Should provide some great photo opportunities for Auburn, UT, UF and UGA this season. Unis will really pop while celebrating on that background.

Wins the thread with that comment.

That top pic's aerial view is either mislabeled date wise or isn't of Stoll Field at all. Stoll Field had roman "aqueduct" arches on the exterior and was bowled in on all but one side. It was also on Euclid next to Alumni Gym, which should 110% be in that picture if it was in fact 1956. Or it could be a very early photo. So again...you're wrong.

Edit: Upon further review, that bottom photo you posted is the first itteration of Commonwealth Stadium. I'm 99.9999% certain of that.

You gotta forgive the volfans. They are 'back' for the 5th strait preseason, they'll get scarce about 5 games into the season.

At least have the courtesy to let my dream live though the offseason

I think McElwain will work out fine. Just hoping we can cherrypick a W early while y'all are regrouping.

Tough but doable

They should've beaten Florida last year at the Swamp. Towles went in dry on "DBU".

Kentucky will beat them this year in Lexington.

I guess that was poorly worded. LT is the big question mark on the OL and I can't even imagine who is going to back up the questionable starter.
