Apparently the choices were FSU and Texas. FSU got cold feet and Texas was required by legislature to bring Aggie so we took Arky and USCe instead

What sucks is somehow we still ended up stuck with A&M

Yeah, I'm questioning this. Why would this have changed in such a (relatively) short amount of time?

SC was coming regardless of the others. clemson also had an invite, but like fsu, they got cold feet. Now they wish they were in the SEC and you can find their fans on these SEC boards.

common knowledge that FSU left the SEC at the altar at that time

Cool. FSU and Texas are more prestigious than Arkansas

Makes sense that they'd want them over us

That's backwards from anything I've ever heard.

I was always told it was Arkansas and FSU...FSU didn't wanna so then it was USCe

good, for me, i have no fondness for any of the sec teams either so that just seems fair.

i rooted for y'all in the nc just hoping to see 3 teams on here melt when you won.

I knew we went after FSU with both barrels but just assumed Miami was the other. Texas is a little surprising in that the original plan was to keep the SEC in the "southeast".

I did know Arkie was way down the list. Broyles practically camped out in B'ham trying to get in.

Honestly USCe was not close to a first pick either. Times have changed in the SEC so much. I know Georgia Tech was approached before the Cocks and in 1991 Bobby Cremins as much as said if Tech joined the SEC he'd resign tomorrow. Which he pretty much did anyway.

Much different than today where people would line up to get in. Back in 90 when the talks first started we had more people than you know turn us down. FSU, Tech and Miami being the one's I know of.

Texas wanted to join the PAC. 1991 Texas was horrible in all sports.

1997 was ranked below A&M academically

Damn, we were running the conference 20 years before we joined it? I mean, I knew we were strong but not that strong.

Today was the first time I'd ever heard Texas mentioned as possibility
