Examining 3rd and Chavis: Week 4

Arizona State: 4/20 on 3rd/4th down combined and 1/6 in the 4th quarter
Ball State: 3/15 on 3rd/4th down and 1/4 in the 4th
Nevada: 5/17 on 3rd/4th down and 2/5 in the 4th
Arkansas: 5/13 on 3rd/4th down and 1/5 in the 4th/OT
Total: 17/65 (26%) on 3rd/4th down and 5/20 in the 4th quarter. A&M is ranked 18th nationally in 3rd down defense.
Weekly analysis: The big thing this week is the three consecutive drives in the 4th quarter and OT that were stops with the game on the line. We struggled all night but actually got 4 consecutive stops on 3rd/4th down including the stop on 3rd/4th in OT.
Will continue to update each week

You fuggin idiot, 3rd and Chavis is only about one or two drives, at the end of one game, against an opponent with better talent, on a day the offense can't score.

That Chavis D gave up 500yrds and had to go to overtime to beat a team that got stomped by Toledo.

You really don't understand 3AC. It rears its ugly head when you least expected it and in big games. But if you look close you can spot it in other games. Look for your defense to have a hard time getting off the field. Maybe even 2/1 in time of possession. That creates the fatigue that allows 3AC to flair up.

The pulseless offenses they've faced are averaging 5.1 yards a play. How often is third down needed?

We dropped 4 spots this week due to two drives where Arky went a combined 4/4 on 3rd and 4th down. The second and third quarters were not good.

You're still A&M. I'm glad to hear that Chief Eats-all-day is keeping the Golden Corrals in College Station in business, though.
