Doesn't paint a pretty picture for Mizzou or Gary Pinkel.

“The football team’s decision to strike is what actually brought most of the national attention to our university. In hindsight, the $1 million penalty associated with forfeiting the game against BYU would have paled in comparison to the more than $25 million in lost tuition and fees MU will realize with reduced enrollment this Fall,” Wolfe wrote.

“It’s also a pittance of the threatened loss of state funding that could be as much as $500 million. Unfortunately, MU Athletic Director Mack Rhoades, Coach Pinkel and Bowen Loftin all failed to communicate with system officials on this matter. The football team’s actions were the equivalent of throwing gasoline on a small fire. Coach Pinkel missed an important opportunity to teach his players a valuable life lesson. The end result could be a financial catastrophe for our university.”

I feel for Mizzou alum. This is really going to hurt the university for a while.

If I'm a donor I don't give a cent. It was just mob rule there and that's what the administration allowed to guide their future. No due process, burden of evidence, etc.

Pretty much.

Mizzou is an embarrassment.

That's why their enrollment is going to be shitty next fall.

I wonder what he means by that. Are parents not allowing their kids to finish their education at Mizzou? Or is the incoming freshman class super small?

i agree, they get an f for how they handled it but what a sticky situation they were in at the time. there wasn't a whole lot of what to do when the football players strike data for them to figure out the best strategy.

Huge decline in student applications for the upcoming fall semester.

Mizzou gets a lot of out-of-state students, like from Illinois. Those kids likely have no emotional connection to Mizzou, they just can't get into The University of Illinois or IU.

So when they see shite like what happened at Mizzou last semester, they (and their parents) probably have no reason to want to go there anymore.

Mizzou is getting everything they deserve for catering to this crap. I hope other universities learn from this and know next time to be the leaders and not cave to this petty shite.

If a person is threatening to harm himself, you can call 911 and the police and social services professionals/medical professionals will determine if the person is indeed a risk to harm themselves. If they are the state can take ward over that person.

How is this different than the hungerstrike by the rich kid from mizzou? Starving himself would indeed be harming himself and could actually lead to death/serious illness.

Why didn't they just take the kid and let the social services/medical professionals decide if he was actually a threat to himself?

SIU and Illinois State enrollments will explode if this is true about enrollment and applications being down 25%.

"Luckily" it is the only public university (that matters) in the state. Could you imagine how bad it would be if we had an important Missouri State?

The idiots on the football team should have taken him a pizza and told him to get his arse back to class.
