Excerpted (fair use) ...

quote:

Despite the SEC's bowl domination, it's fair to say the league mostly underperformed in 2015. That's not to say it wasn't good, but it didn't exactly live up to the league's standards.

One of the reasons was the relatively poor quarterback play. As we steer our sights on 2016, that quarterback play might not be much different.

In fact, it could be worse.

The cyclical nature of college football brought a hammer of sorts down on the SEC's quarterbacks in 2015, as only Ole Miss' Chad Kelly averaged more than 300 passing yards per game (310.9) and just three quarterbacks -- Kelly, Mississippi State's Dak Prescott and Arkansas' Brandon Allen -- threw for 3,000 yards. That was the fewest 3,000-yard passers in the league since 2011 (two).

Those three quarterbacks are also the only ones who threw at least 20 touchdown passes as well. Alabama's Jake Coker has 19, with a chance to reach 20 in Monday's national championship game against Clemson.

The SEC will return just three 2,000-yard passers in 2016. Only Tennessee's Joshua Dobbs joins Kelly as returning quarterbacks with at least 15 touchdown passes. Kelly led the league with 31; Dobbs had 15.

Kelly will be the only returning quarterback with a QBR of at least 80 (87.1). Six starters return with QBRs less than 70 and seven teams return starters who threw at least 10 interceptions in 2015. Six teams averaged fewer than 200 passing yards per game and all six have returning starters.

It's hard to imagine we could be worse, but anything is possible.

Hard to believe but I guess it's true. Don't really see who has some immediate help coming in unless Eason can play as a true freshman.

Ole Miss and kinda UT are the only schools who have a comfortable QB situation going into next year.

bama could be alright if Barnett is ready but Bateman or the guy from Oklahoma aren't going to scare anybody.

it's probable we'll be a 'worser' next season in the qb area.

I mean, how exactly?

Record of Top Half +1 (UF, UT, UGA, Bama, OM, LSU, A&M, State) of SEC vs Power-5

ACC : 3-2
Big Ten : 3-1
Big XII : 3-2
Pac 12 : 1-0
Total Record : 10-5

And that includes Florida's 2 games vs P5 teams at the end of the year when they were basically a bottom tier SEC team minus Grier.

Don't see our QB throwing it backwards this year so we should improve from dumpster fire to bad

I say this as the guy who always told people not to say this post-McCarron, McElroy and Wilson........

There is a 0.0% chance we are worse next year at QB with Barnett.

Chad Kelly and Josh Dobbs=Ole Miss versus UT in Atlanta.

Each team was one play away from this happening in 2015. Ole Miss in Arkansas game, UT in Florida game.

Preach. We will have 3 four-star quarterbacks on the roster, and one of them is an elite 11 quarterback. One of them will step up.
