He did an interview a couple of days ago on some UGA podcast that about 3.5 people listen to...and he was just as engaged and gracious as he would have been if he were being interviewed by Barbara Walters. Really a class act in my view. How do you Bama fans feel about him?

About nine times out of ten, I'd rather listen to him call a game than the TV clowns.

Some friends and I ran a train on Jim Fyffe's daughter. True story. R.I.P.

That's not exactly a ringing endorsement IYKWIM but i understand. Scott Howard on the UGA network is weak but better than the network guys...

I hate alabama as much as the next guy, but it'll be a sad day when gold retires... I'm 30 years old, grew up in AL... he's a small connection my youth, when every game wasn't on television.

class act and, i guess, decent on the broadcasts. I like him as a person but I don't like listening to his broadcasts. Often sounds like:

"Alabama lined up at the 30 yard line moving left to right across your radio. Coker in the pistol formation takes the snap. Give to Henry over the left side. He side steps a man and gets to the outside! Spins out of a tackle! Cuts in side. shakes a man and he's brought down at the 34 yard line."

I swear it seems like a massive play and then you realize the guy just talks fast and it was a 3-5 yard gain. Frustrating.

Great guy, met him once. But he isn't anything special when it comes to radio. I think Bramblet is this best in the SEC

Eli Gold is one of the best. I first heard him while driving through Alabama 8 years ago. It was the Iron Bowl and he did a great job of creating the "theatre of the mind". 'Bama fans are going to miss him when he's gone.

I think he sucks wang at calling games and I know for a fact that he's a egotistical asshat. I know someone that has been envolved with UA since the 50's, and he's had terrible encounters with Eli.

He is no John Forney but would rather listen to him way more than Fowler.
