The Sugar Bowl is contractually obligated to take the SEC Champion, unless that team goes to the Playoff. Then the Sugar Bowl is obligated to take the SEC team with the next highest final CFP ranking.

Assuming Alabama wins out and goes to the Playoff, there are 3 possibilities for the Sugar Bowl:
--Florida, who is probably 10-3 with no impressive wins and almost losing to a bunch of bad teams
--Egg Bowl winner (9-3)
--LSU/Texas A&M winner (9-3)

If Ole Miss wins the Egg Bowl, they'll have the head-to-head over LSU/Texas A&M, but a head-to-head loss to Florida. If Mississippi State wins the Egg Bowl, they'll have a head-to-head loss to LSU/Texas A&M winner.

But all that really matters is the who is ranked the higher. Ole Miss & Mississippi State will be ranked in this week's CFP poll, probably higher than LSU and Texas A&M. So it looks like the Egg Bowl winner probably goes to the Sugar unless Florida wins one of its last 2.

Thoughts?

It has been my lifelong dream to see Mississippi State play in a Sugar Bowl. I'm pumped.

The Sugar Bowl also takes the highest available Big 12 team. So the game would be between Oklahoma, OSU or Baylor instead of Navy or Houston.

Yep, FL will probably be in the Citrus Bowl or Gator Bowl at best after the next 2 weeks.

Ole Miss would annihilate FL right now.

They scored 10 pts on our defense.
It's hard to annihilate a team scoring 10 points.

Having our all-world left tackle back and playing on a neutral field would probably help a bit.

The sugar bowl committee is praying you lose out, because you bring 2000 fans to sugar bowls

Agree. The selection is automatically based on ranking and who is going to rank OM above a Florida team that has a better record and clobbered them.

I suppose if UF loses it's next two games 45-3 or something, we can have this debate. And that's a possibility if they play like they did yesterday.

Egg bowl winner to Citrus, loser to Music City.

AP Poll: MSU & Ole Miss ranked. LSU & A&M unranked.

If the CFP poll is similar, pretty likely that Egg Bowl winner goes to Sugar, assuming Florida loses its last 2.

If Florida can pull an upset, Egg Bowl winner to Citrus.

It should be the winner of the Egg Bowl unless Florida is able to make it a great game in Atlanta

Doesn't the playoff committee make the bowl selections?
