Drunkest and Driest Cities in America
A good topic for a Friday, and a nice diversion from "Oxford Burning. Apparently there are a lot of lushes in Wisconsin and Iowa according to this but I read this article, and I got to thinking "what are the drunkest towns in the SEC." What say you? I say:
Drunkest to Driest
1. Baton Rouge - hands down...never been to a more raucous town in the SEC
2. Athens - so many bars downtown. Woulda never graduated from here with so much partying going on
3. Tuscaloosa - Alabama Slammers at Gallettes. Coked up frat boys abound
4. Lexington - bourbon and Keeneland
5. Oxford - frat boys on the town square
6. Knoxville - "that's why all the folks on Rocky Top get their corn from a jar"
7. Gainesville -
8. Columbia SC -
9. Fayetteville -
10. Nashville- as a town it would be higher on this list, but Vandy community is not really a "drunk town"
11. College Station - tailgate parties on GameDay but it doesn't strike me as a terribly booze-soaked town. Could be wrong here
12. Auburn - 2nd most conservative town in the SEC. People drink there for sure but it's not a "party school"
13. Starkville - catfish & sweet tea
**Columbia MO - I don't know a thing about their culture. Somebody'll have to fill me in.

Can't argue with these hard hitting facts.

Clearly did his research

Makes up his own random list of drunkest towns of the SEC... To legitimize his point, adds list from random website that lists none of those towns.

They took the number one spot after their AD promoted a position coach to head coach.

How did Mizzou fare against that interim position coach this past year?

Auburn is a conservative school and we're not at the top in drinking, but I doubt we're below towns like Fayetteville, Columbia SC or College Station, at least in drinking culture.
If it's based on drinking options, sure, but then Oxford and the like go down a ton. There is very little difference between the drinking culture of somewhere like Oxford and Auburn when it comes to drinking.
I spent 4 years in Auburn and 3 years at UGA, and there really isn't much difference in how much people drink. UGA certainly seems that way due to the number of bars and the fact that way more people from outside the school come to drink at UGA (bc of the bar scene).
Louisiana's drinking culture is different, and I imagine somewhere like Vandy is a little different on the other end of the spectrum. But among the remaining SEC schools, are any of them not drinking-centric?

Agreed. Everyone drinks and drinks heavily. UGA just has more options than most

Probly. If that's your criteria, and you've ever been to Fayetteville, you'd know there are about 30 little bars within the downtown area that is adjacent to campus.
But nobody has ever been to Fayetteville...

I REALLY want to go. Was pissed when we got Little Rock back in 2014 because I would have gone to Fayetteville in a heartbeat.

Anything and everything within a 2 hour drive of AB is a drunken city/town

Honestly the list is most likely
1. LSU
T2nd Every other school besides Vandy
14. Vandy
There is very little difference in how much most large state schools drink per student. Especially ones in the SEC where none are elite academically. Louisiana just has a different drinking culture

I think I probably agree with you.
And to be fair to the rest of the SEC, they can drink with LSU no problem, but LSU and Louisiana definitely have a different culture when it comes to alcohol.
