Is there any NCAA policy in place for situations when a student athlete is arrested for drugs. I mean the likely hood that they used said drugs is pretty high one would assume.

Do people just randomly start paying attention to college athletics when something excites them?

Drug related stuff happens 250 times a year in D1 college football.

Way more than that. But possession of a stolen firearm isn't nearly as common

Why do you only hear about Bama players getting arrested for weed and not just failing drug tests?

Usually we hear about it after a failed drug test though. In a recent incident however a couple of players were arrested for possession of marijuana. Chances are they didnt have it in their possession because they took it away from a few scoundrels to save them from years of regret.

So the question remains, does the NCAA, or individual schools, have a policy in place to test student athletes for drug use after being arrested for drug possession?

No, but he isn't asking about that. He's asking about general NCAA policy towards drug use.

Well, for one, they are generally kept in-house and suspensions made for "team rule violations". For another, they are pretty similar to most other schools.

More specifically, Drug Related Arrests is what I am asking about.

There is no NCAA wide rule about athletes arrested on drug charges.

Yea, it's pretty much the Wild West I think outside of some schools like Georgia.

So easy to just have them sit out with an "injury" for a game instead of suspending them. Drug testing as a whole is pretty useless, you have to be a complete moron to get in any trouble with it.

I know of at least 3-4 instances where guys were suspended for team rules and it was clearly a drug test failure.

It seems to happen a lot more with basketball for whatever reason.
