1. Clemson loses to North Carolina in ACC title game.

2. Iowa loses to Nebraska, Penn State beats Michigan State, Michigan beats Ohio State, Michigan beats Iowa in Indiannapolis.

3. Stanford beats Notre Dame, then loses to UCLA in the PAC 12 title game.

4. Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma, but Texas beats Baylor.

5. Florida loses to Florida State, but somehow beats Alabama in Atlanta.

At this point, you have the following:

ACC Champion: North Carolina (12-1)
Big Ten Champion: Michigan (11-2)
Big 12 Champion: Oklahoma State (11-1)
PAC 12 Champion: UCLA (10-3)
SEC Champion: Florida (11-2)

Other candidates:

Clemson (12-1)
Notre Dame (10-2)
Alabama (11-2)
Oklahoma (10-2)
Baylor (10-2)
Navy (12-1)

Who is in?

The only playoff we'll be in this year in men's sports involve those with fewer than 11 players on each side.

I, for one, believe Iowa is not getting enough respect. I take Iowa over Michigan right now. I've watched them play two games this year. Fairly complete team with huge running backs and a filthy defense.

More plausible doomsday scenario:

Alabama wins out, Michigan State wins out, Clemson loses to North Carolina, OU wins out, and Notre Dame wins out.

Now you've got the six teams above, plus potentially Ohio State, Baylor, and North Carolina, and Iowa, all with one loss.

10 teams with one loss, nobody undefeated, and four spots to fill in the "playoff".

Florida would go over Bama in this case. You just cann't possibly rationalize Bama in it with the same record and one has the SEC title.

UCLA already has 3 losses

accounting for that I think the committee would do this:

1. Michigan
2. Oklahoma St
3. Florida
4. Alabama

I think the committee would be perfectly willing to claim Alabama was "unequivocally" better than conference champions North Carolina and UCLA.

OU would have a considerably stronger claim than NC. And it wouldn't be clear cut even then.

They played an extremely close game the first time. You might make sense if Bama played over LSU instead of against them.

my comment has nothing to do with the game or how bad lsu got beat. It's asking you if you really know and understand the power of...BAMA?!?

And, if all that bullshite happens in the OP, Bama will still, certainly, be considered for the top 4. The question shouldn't be: should they be? If Bama is involved, the question is: why not?

Depends on whether Bama "beats itself" or is beaten by Florida

And you just can't seem to forget it.

Seriously though, going along with the conference champ is much different than going in place of the conference champ. Surely you know this.

Michigan and Florida would be the only 2 loss teams with a shot

but one of Florida or Michigan MIGHT get left out in favor of Clemson in that scenario, would LOVE to see this happen
