Does the SEC need to address how it determines division winners?

Alabama may have been the best team in the SEC West, but I am not 100% sure. For example, LSU, Texas A&M and Alabama all had the same record against SEC West teams...they were each 6-1. LSU lost to Alabama who lost to Texas A&M who lost to LSU...three way tie.

Against the SEC East teams:
Alabama was 2-0 with victories over Tennessee (5-7) and Missouri (5-7)
LSU was 1-1 with loss to Florida (11-1) and win over South Carolina (10-2)
Texas A&M was 1-1 with loss to Florida (11-1) and win over Missouri (5-7).

Based on that, Alabama had the far easier OOD (out of division) schedule. I am not here to belabor that point. It isn't Alabama's fault that Tennessee, a historically strong program, is down right now.

That being said, what if an SEC West team (Team A) beats all of the other SEC West teams, but loses both OOD SEC games to finish 6-2. Meanwhile, another SEC West team (Team B) just loses to Team A to finish 7-1. Further, let's assume that Team A had a much tougher OOD schedule than Team B.

In this scenario, how would you feel about Team A going to the SECCG over Team B?

Should division winners be determined as follows:
1. Record against teams in division
2. Head to head
3. OOD record
4. BCS ranking

Using that logic, Alabama would have still gone to the SECCG. But this process makes year-to-year OOD scheduling discrepancies less of a problem...take care of business inside your division and you control your destiny.

Thoughts? In this scenario, how would you feel about Team A going to the SECCG over Team B?

My thought is I hope people realize you're the CEO before they start talking shite to you.

As for the topic, I like the way things are decided now.

I would have to do research to see how this process would have affected things in years past, but I am guessing that most of the matchups since the SECCG started would be the same.

I think that part is particularly important.

It makes sense to me. To be the winner of a division you should be the best against the competition within the division. What is wrong with that?

The over all W/L should be the deciding factor. Keep it like it is.

I agree, but UGA is not going to like it. By your system they could miss Atlanta in place of UF. Still too humanized if we need a committee of circumstances to decide. It all needs to be settled on the field, otherwise you might as well flip a coin if there is another 3way tie.

Spurrier made the same arguement last year after USC was left out of the SECCG in the exact scenario you described.

I think the SEC decided against making a change because they want all conference games to be equally important and not effectively out of conference games.

No. We go to an 11 game conference schedule, and outside your permanent, you schedule two historically strong and two historically weaker cross division opponents.

Why have divisions?

Take top two teams, play them in CG.

When you get into that though, I think it opens up a can of worms.

Someone is always going to have a gripe. Was it "fair" when Alabama faced 6 opponents coming off a bye week? By far more than any other school.
You don't have to go back to the 90's to see the last time UT won the east. I'm not against what you and OBC are proposing, but the law of averages will play itself out if things are left the same.

Also, can I have my sig back?

ETA: I am all for adding another conference game though, which will be a huge step in the right direction of "fairness" and also increases the amount you see teams from across the division

If Team A is Texas A&M, then yes.
