Yep, ole Porkerface is highly entertaining too.

"So what argument is there to justify Kentucky being in the SEC?"

What a fricking knucklehead.

hose SECT match-ups were great games and I loved them. Having said that, Nolan didn't care about them and never put much emphasis into winning, because we were already in the NCAAT and winning the SECT didn't mean anything. He just wanted players to not get injured before the big dance.

You realize those games went into OT's and down to the wire...right? Also, we were in the dance as well. Don't kid yourself, Nolan wanted to beat UK bad.

Yes, obviously you are making a funny tho

1. Do you really think what other SEC schools do will have an effect on Arkansas in T&F?

Yes, if they win and Hogs do not, they knock the Hogs out of the T&F picture in the future. How many T&F's has TAMU won since they joined? Do you think they will never win another?

quote:

2. Kentucky sucked in basketball when we joined the SEC.

a) 5 banners from 2 different coaches pre Hogs

b) Hogs win single banner with single coach

c) 3 more banners from 3 more different coaches since

You must have a skewed view of what constitutes sucking. Perhaps I should quote the late legendary coach and commentator (who won his own NCAA banner)

"They had it before you, they had it during you, they'll have it when you're gone"...." - Al McGuire

Even the opponents know the score on UK basketball

"When you see Kentucky's fans, you just wonder. You think how wonderful it would be to go to their school. You wish you could trade places for a day, just so you could experience that feeling." - UCLA player Kris Johnson

I'm not surprised you don't believe me, but it is true and I doubt it's the first time you've heard that. Nolan's even said it himself several times. He let the players play, but also took actions to protect them.

IIRC, Kentucky won the SECT the year we won the national title, right? So you think Kentucky was better, but couldn't win the title? Those Arkansas teams were much better then Kentucky, as you saw in our regular season match-ups, but Kentucky fans mostly remember the SECT match-ups, understandably. They were great games, but Kentucky didn't receive our best in them.

I don't know about TAMU, but I think it's ridiculous to think that what other SEC teams do will have any significant affect on Arkansas. We were winning T&F championships before we joined the SEC and still do today, so when will this predicted slowdown happen? We've beaten the best, regardless of what conference they came from, so I don't know why that wouldn't continue.

I don't follow basketball of any sort nowadays.

I knew Eddie at Arkansas and I knew him at UK, lost track when he went to OSU but he was a good coach. He had demons the whole way through but he probably could have gotten a banner at UK. I am not one to throw him under the bus and I have some doubts on some of the things that went down. I also may not have doubts on some things that did not so it probably balanced out.

I really would like to see Arkansas basketball back up to snuff but time and correct hires will cure that more than us talking about it. I miss Barnhill but I miss Memorial too and those days will not return.

The only real f*ck up at UK was Billy Clyde and I blame MB for that.

There is no argument because Kentucky doesn't need to argue their case.

Because as I travel around I see others spending the money to compete. 5 years ago UK T&F did not exist and look where they finished this spring. Vandy just did their upgrade so look at their pipeline in say 5 years. SECN will level the field by giving all the SEC T&F schools regional and national media exposure. Call it a hunch, but SEC T&F is about to fracture across multiple SEC schools.

Wow... that's quite a post and one I completely agree with. Arkansas basketball started with Sutton and it shocked me when left for Kentucky, saying he would have crawled there. I don't know what was going on with him, but I was in high school at the time, while he was recruiting a player at my school. He went to a lot of our games and always looked really bad.

I don't think I ever fully understood what happened at Kentucky, but what happened with recruiting while Sutton was there? He recruited well at Arkansas and should have recruited far better at Kentucky.

Speaking of recruiting, we apparently produce more great players inside Arkansas today, then we did when Nolan left, so the right coach should have it easy. Our administration has failed us in both sports over the past couple of decades, or so, and it's almost shocking that we struggle so much to hire a great basketball coach. I've always been skeptical of Mike Anderson, but still hoped he work out.

You must really know Arkansas if you know Barnhill. I also miss it and enjoyed the atmosphere there much better then at Bud Walton. When Jim Robken was running around waving a towel, the place would go wild and it was deafening. Those were great times.

Well it was there before him, but that phase was his baby. The triplets were fun to watch and it was high cotton back then.

I liked the old venues warts and all. It was more fans in the stands and no damned corporate boxes. Again, those days are gone and I hate NCAA games in pro football venues. It is a game meant to be played with crowds close to the floor so the energy is higher. Granted I do appreciate air conditioning, when I was younger I guess you just ignored the heat.

Well, Arkansas fans start a new little dick syndrome thread about Kentucky every week or so and are constantly up in threads that have something to do with Kentucky.

I wish it was flattering when a hog fan gets all Catsessed but it isn't. Maybe if they were Big 6 in football.

Pretty much the same here. The old venues had character you don't find in newer venues today. That was what it was all about and seems to be forgotten.

I make the drive from Bham to Louisville on a regular basis; have not stopped at:

* Corvette museum
* Dinosaur Land
* Birthplace of Abe Lincoln (who instigated an immoral and illegal war to suppress the rights of Southern citizens)
* Jim Beam distillery

BUT, I will on all of those. Want to take my 7 yr old boy to Dino Land - the rest I just wanna see.

Oh, and the Cracker Barrel on exit 2 in KY is one of the better ones I have ever been to, and that is saying a lot...

ETA - I would be a liar if I did not say that I have AT LEAST thought about the "Adult World" - looks as big as a regular mall from I 65 - can't tell if it is even ever open though....

Not sure how many times I have passed that place and wondered if it is real. As you said, it is huge, and damn near deserted every time I pass.
