He seems pretty confident from these tweets. I don't recall him being so bold in the short time we've been here:
Aaron Brenner ?@wareagleextra 28m
Full quote too long to tweet, but Slive intimates the new SEC Network can and will surpass Big Ten Network in success. Tough task.

Ryan Wood ?@AUBlog 30m
Slive on impending announcement Thursday of SEC Network: "I think it's one of the major moments for us."

You have a new network. He needs to do all he can to promote it.

Will pass the big 10/12 network.

Slive never exaggerates.
Why would it be a "tough task" for the SEC network to surpass the B1G network? Has already been proven that 25% more people actually watch SEC football on a game by game basis WITHOUT said network(PRIOR to the additions of aTm and Mizzou) -- which is, to imply, that when these dollar figures finally top out, we will be worth at least 25% more money...
Either way, there is a wide arse margin of error for us to "match" them...

No not at all, especially when it's in reference to butt fricking Jim Delany.

Adding Mizzou gave him a massive amount of negotiating leverage.
Thanks Mizzou.
Thanks Mizzou.

Well, he did say THIS:
“Missouri is an outstanding academic institution with a strong athletic program. We look forward to having the Tigers compete in our league starting in 2012.”

It's one thing for the SECN to make more money than the BTN, it's another thing for the SEC to make more money off of the SECN as the B1G makes off of the BTN. And that will all depend on how the ownership of the network is setup. If ESPN has full ownership over the SECN, then we will get a flat rate no matter how successful the SECN is. But if the SEC shares ownership with ESPN (say 49%/51%), then the SEC's profit off of the SECN can grow as the SECN grows.

It's already leaked that it will be a partnership -- not an ownership. The exact percentage is anyone's guess, but 51/49 seems likely.

The rumor I heard is that the SEC gets the majority 51%....emphasize rumor.

Same here.
Would be the same split as the B1G has with Fox...
And I imagine our launch would happen 2-3x as quickly and easily as theirs did... at least in our priority areas...

I think there is a push to have a lot of content already prepared...with this in view.

Why the hell wouldn't it? It's the best league. Period. Not only will football be a big hit, think of all the basketball, baseball, and spring games that will be viewable on the SEC network. I'd be SHOCKED if the SEC Network wasn't a bigger success than the Big Ten Network after the first year of airing.

What's he supposed to say: the SEC network is gonna be a huge failure?

No, but saying it will surpass the B1G is different than saying it will be successful. He's either a snakeoil salesman that will lawyer his way out of these comments, or he's 100% sure that its going to blow the doors off other conference networks. Trying to figure out which.

I don't think there is any doubt that the SEC network will surpass the B1G -- and fairly quickly.
Better product, better market, better management.

ADs were told in January to get the "inventory" together for the new network, and to prepare to up the inventory on everything from that moment forward. "Nothing goes unrecorded or unpackaged from this day forward."
I know, I was in the office later that same day when the mantra around the league literally became, "more inventory, more inventory, more inventory."
So yes, you're right. Our ADs have been sending them inventory since that day and they've been doubling and tripling their efforts to produce more and more since.

When was it leaked that it would be a split ownership (it will be a partnership regardless who owns what percentage of the network)? I saw a few people that speculated that it would be a split ownership, but those people never claimed that that info was leaked by either the SEC or ESPN. One of those that was originally speculating that it would be a split ownership was the guy that does the Mr. SEC blog. He then came back and said that he was more recently hearing that the SEC might prefer to let ESPN have full ownership because they basically didn't want to mess with the startup or administration of the project. But again, the only people I've seen comment on it are bloggers and people that didn't claim SEC or ESPN sources.
