Sherman was the one that signed JFF. He left Sumlin a gift. Plus the two NLF OTs on that line. Sherman was not the greatest coach ever, but the man could socut. That is more than the staff at AU can do (they use rival ranking as thier big board)

Sherman would have moved him to WR, then back again.

He got plenty of credit, but Sumlin has exposed how bad a college coach he was. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Sherman, he was/is a great man, probably had the best character of any coach I've ever seen, which is great for mentoring kids and preparing them for life, but unfortunately for him, he was paid to do more than that and just couldn't get it to translate into W's on the field.

He didn't leave the cupboard bare but he also didn't leave A&M much depth, esp on D. Odds are he would have put Manziel in the doghouse after his arrest over the Summer and started Showers, throwing 10 yard comeback passes 15 times a game hoping they were only picked off twice.

I like Sherm as a person and think he represented A&M well. I'm also very glad he is the OC of the Miami Dolphins now.

sounds like Chizik. You always hear about him is that he is a "good man." Dude is stealing 1.16 million per win this season, IF we beat Alabama A&M

Yes. He's still decently remembered in these parts (unlike Fran). Having said that, he still had to go, good recruiting or not.

former recruiting head coordinator Tom Rossley had to beg Sherman to take on JFF.

that said, he did get the kid to sign on the dotted line when it came down to it.

the one thing most Aggies have always given Sherman credit for is the massive cleanup he did with Texas HS coaches post Fran. He was able to right the ship with recruiting for sure. He just blew as a game day coach.

he was a dumbass and ruined relationships with a lot of schools. coaches didn't call on a lot of places, it was just bad. heard lots of stories from around the state, he was not well liked.

I hate that people say that our success this year is due to the SEC being overrated. If Sumlin was at A&M last year (or during the Von Miller years) there's a very strong chance that we would have won the Big XII multiple times. Sherman just tried to force too many square pegs into round holes.

Here's my counter to that:

Julien Obioha: True freshman starter at DE.

Jonathan Mathis: 2-year starter at NT for Sherman, 3rd string under Sumlin

Kirby Ennis: Spotty playing time under Sherman, starter under Sumlin

De'Vante Harris: True freshman starter at CB, didn't commit until Sumlin showed up

Deshazor Everett: Benchwarmer DB behind Trent Hunter and Dustin Harris. CRITICAL starter under Sumlin

Steven Terrell: Career backup behind one of the most mediocre safeties we ever had (Trent Hunter), STARTER for Sumlin who doubled his career high in interceptions this season

The man couldn't make adjustments to save his life (you see this with Miami) and cared more about "balance" and trying to catch the opponent off guard than sticking with what worked.

When asked last year why the offense was consistently failing when it mattered most, his response was "no it's not, it's in the top ten in yardage per game".

WTF!!!

Sherman is a great coach. Take that shite back. We'd be 10-1 if he was here this year.

Well to be fair, the oldest Matthews was a Fran recruit. That started the pipeline. Sherman's best might end up being Mike Evans. Absolutely no one wanted him. His next best offer was Colorado State.
