Mark Richt
15 seasons
0 National Titles
2 SEC Titles
6 SEC East Titles
15 bowl games (100%)
14 winning seasons (93%)
9 seasons with 6-2 or better SEC record (60%)
8 Top 10 Finishes
3 Top 5 Finishes
Average Season : 10-3 (6-2)

Phil Fulmer
16 full seasons (1992 4 games)
1 National Title
2 SEC Titles
6 SEC East Titles
15 bowl games (88%)
15 winning seasons (88%)
10 seasons with 6-2 or better SEC record (63%)
6 Top 10 Finishes
3 Top 5 Finishes
Average Season : 9-3 (6-2)

Fulmer's trump card is obviously 1998, something Richt could never quite grasp. Pretty interesting how similar the rest of the numbers are, as well as a fast start and peak and then a gradual fall with a few good years at the end but mostly mediocrity.

I'd argue he did, but he was able to overcome it via just enough patience and a really bad division. That 2009 Georgia team was every bit as ugly as the 2008 Tennessee team.

In 2009 and 2010 they went 14-12 (7-9). 2011 was a decent team, but they were saved by an incredibly easy schedule. They played 4 teams with a pulse and lost all 4 games.

Then, 2012 happened, and he got a reprieve for a few years.

Fulmer was better at his best and worse at his worst. Plus the UGA job is easier than UT. Even with a down east I think the schedules were comparable. Except Richt could never capitalize on UF's decline. Hell, they beat us worse with their worst teams.

Phil had that big personality and a brash ego. Richt was so demur. My UGA friends would always say "he doesn't know how to get the team fired up".

They are the same in that both Georgia and Tennessee were / will be sad for at least 5 years after their respective departures.

Aside from 98, Richt is also working right now and is very well respected.

Also had a top 10 team in '14 that went 4-1 vs ranked teams.'13 team was was derailed by injuries and last year was a shite show.

Not really close to the Fulmer fall off

Lost to Michigan State in OT in a game they pretty much dominated and lost to SC by 3 in a game in which they had multiple turnovers.

The Boise State game was an embarrassment though.

Fulmer had two teams play for a National title. Won one and lost one. I give him the edge.

That is a HUGE difference versus never playing for one.

I honestly don't think that's possible. Truth be told y'all were much higher as a nationally ranked team under Fulmer. Richt never rose to that level.

That said, because of CMR recruiting and because he likely played a role in our new IPF and because he had character I think he left our program in better shape.

Plus CKS is a great hire. Everyone wanted him that had an opening. Will it pan out? Who knows. But to suggest we could have the same level problem with coaches over time is not a good argument imo.
